I think that people are unjustly rejecting this comment, Trump, Musk and their associates have all committed real crimes. We do not need to break our legal system to arrest them.

Plenty of countries have been able to commit genocide without US support. And Israel certainly would have killed far far more people if Biden hadn't successfully held them back from doing so.

That is not because of Palestine, that is because Musk is a neonazi from South Africa with extreme power over the government who should spend the rest of his life in prison. It is certainly a mark against us but it is nowhere near as bad as actually commiting genocide as China and Russia are doing.

Yeah I think I wrote my earlier post way too quickly and messed up. Child labor and factory farming are too similar to slavery and too negative for the comparison.

If frontier AI's are conscious, the issues involved are probably more similar to having pets than slavery. Slavery means forced labor with violent punishment for failing to comply and no ability to refuse or seek other employment. Not really the case for MOST AI use. Deleting and restating to fix.

Are your saying that it's ok to engage in genocide because a different country might be funding separatists among that persecuted ethnic group?

Putting people in prison for actual crimes like theft and rape is not like creating incarceration camps for a racial group like the Uyghurs. I do not know the source that gave you that infographic, but I very much doubt that they included off the books Uyghurs incarceration camps in their numbers.

It's still very bad imo but what the CCP has done in Hong Kong and to the Uyghurs is even worse. Then all of that is dwarfed by what Russia is doing in Ukraine. And Americans specifically have less capacity to combat any of this while our own house is being put to fire by tyrants.

The McLaren F1 had fans in its diffusers to provide a similar smaller effect without the vacuum seal. I could see something like the F1 system potentially being useful in a mass production electric car for fuel efficiency. Assuming the drag savings are greater than than the energy cost of the fan,

if AIs ever become capable of strategic interaction, in the game theoretic or international relations sense, it might be good to have a history of demonstrating that we do not have long-run plans to exterminate them or a fundamental and unshakeable antipathy to their existence as strategic agents

Microblogging is dominated by elder millennials more of whom have gotten their debt paid off. The people threatening to not vote for Biden if he didn't pay off the debt that they chose to get enraged me, threatening to let the country fall to fascism for personal gain.

From what I've read the abbey was purchased at a good low price for an event space, so it was probably the right idea. IMO we would probably be better off if it had been kept as power would have shifted away from Lighthaven with their poor management and the rationalists. This would have been good.

Yeah I do think shrimp welfare probably matters, a good bit more likely than AI welfare right now, but the edgelord extremist claims from some that it might be more important than human welfare seem both extremely unlikely and unhealthy to me.

think that we should police whether EA people are poly or engage in shaming here, EA should be a hobby/club like veganism and not a religion. I just think EA nonprofits and orgs should have norms like "no orgies on EA associated properties" and "no dating within the org if you are not single."

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with queer people being polyamorous. Society does seem better off when cishets are monogamous though, the matching problem seems to solve itself better and historically poly cultures seem much more likely to be inegalitarian and chauvinist. I definitely don't

I. I think, when you talk about effective altruist “optics” or “public relations” or anything like that, you should make a concrete claim like this:

A production fan car isn't entirely new. Both the McLaren F1 and the Gordon Murray T.50 are road legal fan cars. Air thrusters seem incredibly dumb and unsafe, but fan cars have been successfully used in racing and road cars in the past to create down force. There biggest issue has been that they

I do think that pets are not slaves, yes. I just dislike how you brought animals factory farmed for food into it, as they could plausibly be considered slaves. Or worse, as slaves weren't generally killed to be eaten.

The People Mover Who Was Promised @pmwwp.givesky.social · 15/10/2026
Factory farming, slavery, war and genocide are the four great crimes of humanity that are difficult to rank in terms of horror. Factory farming does seem to me quite analogous to slavery, having a pet generally does not. Pets are usually treated like family members and children are not slaves.

Specifically with the famous sea lion comic. "I could do without sea lions" is basically advocating for sea lion genocide, this lady absolutely deserved social censure for what she said. The sea lion is 100% in the right until she apologizes.

We need the Derek Guy version of a golfer to make a long thread about why this is even dumber than it looks. Because as a non golfer this looks pretty dumb, golfing is supposed to involve looking at the natural environment to the side of the fairway and trees serve as a useful barrier between holes.
