Good article. Always like it when they have worked examples, commands and command output so you can see what is going on. Thanks for sharing.

$4 BILLION. That’s how much the Trump Administration has now spent paying companies to cancel offshore wind projects that would have lowered your electric bill. Yes, you heard that right: they are PAYING to keep more energy off the grid and your bills higher.

Trump Administration to Pay RWE to Cancel Wind Leases
It was the fifth such deal struck by the administration to get companies to drop offshore wind projects.

Agree. Ten to spend 1/3 of my time with the agents getting it to improve things, reduce tech debt, add new ADRs, etc. But then what comes out is generally very good (for my purposes)

Great recommendations. I can +1 on VoiceInk. The accuracy over anything else I’ve used is significant. Then use a Yeti Blue desk microphone. It’s directional - so doesn’t pick up anything coming out of my monitor speakers, so great for calls as well as dictation.

Are you using open models on a regular basis? If yes, I’d love to hear about it! - what’s your use-case? - local or through an inference provider? - how has the experience evolved over time? - anything you miss from the closed models, if you’ve used them? Would appreciate reposts for visibility 🙏

My concerns are a few years old, whilst working for a large bank and defining regulated interfaces using OpenAPI Spec 3.0, which used a draft JSON Schema spec. This isn’t a comfortable position. As draft - indicates “can change without warning”. And regulatory means fines for non compliance.

Agree. I’ve bought a device to read the PDO (power delivery objects) for each of my chargers, hubs, etc. Hate it when things charge slowly…

My take. Profit for growing companies is usually reinvested into growth. If you’re making large profits early on, you’re probably not investing enough in the future. When you slow that investment, you’ll get a larger profit if your revenue is big. Didn’t you work at Amazon? 😉

Quick bit of feedback. Can you get the team to review the GitHub vscode-edu app permissions. It’s currently requesting read/write on everything (including ability to manage organisation level settings)

Because - even if you limit things like instances, you can still get hit with massive bills for egress traffic.

I don’t think that cloud providers provide adequate features around this. Whether it is due to agents, malicious callers, or just a mistake. By default, there should be cost limits built into every service or account. IMHO

Great watch. There’s definitely a risk vs reward angle. A few mitigations around granular access controls and limits. Something around approvals. And then something around on device vs cloud. Woefully behind so far, but I still think Apple have a massive opportunity here for personal automation

I’d prefer it if the code was deterministic. So you get an LLM to write the code to determine if the schemas are deterministic? That way if it misses anything you can evolve the code. You wouldn’t want a “but your tool told me there were no breaking changes” and you haven’t the explainability
