And lots of propane in New England too—which comes from Canada. I expect a big increase this winter.

Of my two cats (RIP), one played only with the fake mice and other 3-D toys and one with only string-like objects. No overlap probably helped with the peaceful coexistence.

Moulton is awful on so many issues, and Markey has earned my support. Given his age, though, I preferred retirement, so that we would have had a full field of candidates and not just Moulton.

And we should all be yelling about the Dept of Ed--like the other agencies--issuing political messages. The constant stream of invective, propaganda, and unscientific drivel coming from the agencies is warping both policy and public opinion. We should not accept this as normal.

Devastating, in part for the loss of serendipity in the stacks. When working on my master’s thesis at MIT, I found wedged between two books a gov’t pamphlet from 1945 that had not been cited before & that revealed more about the framing of a massive program than all the docs & testimony I’d read.

NPR has long stood for “Nice Polite Republicans.” I still tune in, but have been talking back during the “news” programs for years. Incredible that people think NPR has a liberal bias.

$0.725 an hour as a waitress at Bob's Big Boy (owned by the Marriott Corporation). Required to fill out a federal form every week declaring we'd made enough in tips to bring the pay to minimum wage (even when we hadn't).

The Common could probably hold 400K edge-to-edge given that today's pix show that the ball field & area by the State House are clear. But I wasn't at the event for John Paul II ( not Francis, oops). Missed today due to an injury, but made all the other rallies!

For today's No Kings in Boston, the estimate is 180K, basically tied with the 175K at the Women's March in 2017 (given that these are just estimates). For people who aren't as up on Boston stats: 400K for Pope Francis and 125K for the rally in October.

Why is there music at all? (I pointlessly ask). Years ago, a local radio station had the tagline "the soundtrack of your life"--which pretty much sums up the problem of bad (and usually too loud) music assaulting us everywhere we go. I rely on good ear plugs to avoid the breaking point.

I intended to major in math, but barely made it through calculus. Had a prof who managed to get 95% of the class to fail the midterm exam & a textbook (by Lipman Bers) that taught problem solving by saying "the rest is intuitively obvious to the alert reader." Lesson: failure isn't always personal.

This is so weak. Why just ICE & not CBP? All agents must get out of schools, churches, hospitals. End ICE/CBP "arrests" at courthouses for people following the rules & then take on DOJ for having imm. judges terminate cases just so law-abiding people can be detained & deported. And more...

Vance would do it in a nanosecond. The others would wait until they are sure they can get a less chaotic, but just as evil deal on their domestic agenda. And it's not clear we'd get improved foreign relations; more subtle destruction, perhaps.

Broke my nose in the library when I was in college. Leaned around the carrel to throw something in the trash & whacked my glasses hard on the way back up—literally saw stars. It cracked along an old break line acquired when I tripped going up the gym bleachers at my high school awards assembly.

Add that mail times have been dreadful this December, so may choke at tax & election time. Holiday cards took 11 days; b-day card sent 12/18 hasn't arrived in CA yet. Package sent to me spent 4 days going back & forth between 2 regional centers in the same state before getting on the road to me.

Yes! Just because we experience time as linear doesn't mean it is. Could be simultaneous, with ghosts being glimpses into other times. You'll believe in ghosts if you've ever sat on a bench in the central green in Salem, MA. That town is creepy and haunted, even on a sunny summer day.

This a thread about one feature of the Trump Admin's EO regarding the Smithsonian that I haven't seen much explicit discussion of. The stated purpose for reviewing Smithsonian exhibits and collections is to ensure they align with something called "Americanism." That term has a notable genealogy.
