I'll admit there was one creator who was honest & said that luck was the biggest factor in his VA success but is that actually the hidden truth for everyone? Is it all luck?? If so that would make me feel a little better since I dont have $4K+ to take one class that I dont know will even help.

Every YouTube "Top 5 Things You Need For Voice Acting" video say the same thing. - Items 1-3 are vague "just get good" one liners - Items 4-5 suggest one of the very expensive classes I mentioned above. On a RARE occasion someone will say: "here's a free resource" and its actually useful/insightful

Without critiques nothing can get better. A prime example is The Descendants franchise. Although a more insulated series, they’ve heard public feedback and steadily improved over time. Wicked Wonderland currently being one of my favorites so far.

It is important to have constructive critiques in public discourse and that includes media you might have enjoyed. The reality is Camp Rock 3’s story was mediocre, at best. Actors were great, story not so much.

I can’t get over how good Champion of The Rose (written by @cataquino.bsky.social and Dominique Duran, published by @viz.com) truly is. I finished Volume 1 back in June but it’s still front of mind for me. The plot, pacing, & characters all felt so alive and so intentional. I can’t wait for more.

I can’t speak to this specific version but I’ve had a Garmin fitness tracker watch for the past six years and not regretted it once. The app isn’t super flashy but there’s no monthly subscription to worry about and you get all the data you need. The integrations with their smart scale are nice too

If you remove the Camp Rock backdrop, add more new songs, and throw the actors into somewhere like an art school, this could've been the start of a great new music franchise. Instead we 85% recycled content and a bunch of new, talented faces with their reps tied to a franchise past its prime.

The highlights, for me, truly were all the new talent & handful of original new songs they made. Outside of that it was an avalanche of unnecessary callbacks to the first two films. At a certain point, we as artists & consumers, have to push back on this factory-farm of nostalgia slop.

I watched Camp Rock 3 & it didn't really land for me unfortunately. There were a lot of unforced errors that, if this would've come out back in 2012, would've been forgivable. Unfortunately we waited 16-years for something lackluster. The new generation of talent? Amazing. The story? Not so much.

There is a lot of pressure as a BIPOC writer to “perform” your culture, even in fantasy. Black people are not a monolith. My perspective as a Londoner, a Yoruba person, a child of an immigrant, and a person of mixed heritage is not the same as the next Black writer’s.

The Cree Summers of the world or “Squids” or Cousin Skeeter or Spinelli’s feel like relics of the past. Now it’s feels like VAs are told to perform 1 of 3 flavors of vanilla. So many VA archetypes have yet to be done. We don't have to repeat the same ones. Theres room for diverse voices to shine

Part of what, to me, is so memorable about shows like Static Shock, Rugrats, etc., was the rich diversity of VA talent. Just doesn’t feel like that anymore...

Its been on my mind lately how a lot of what I’ve been hearing from the VA world recently, specifically animated shows, has felt pretty bland. It feels like every show is VAs to imitate the same 2-3 overdone voice styles. And I can’t figure out yet if that’s a production or consumer issue.

It feels bad to critique shows like this, especially because the passion the actors have is SO clear. It’s not them. It’s production & whoever else is dictating the flow. They paired the best of what LOST had to offer (layered characters) & paired it with its worst trait (overly complex boogeyman)
