Echoes of Iraq, Afghanistan, etc I mean there's no question the Union militia is attacking racist anti-government terrorists, it's just clear that in the greater context of things there's something else happening too It's the whole "American Exceptionalism" thing in a microcosm: the internal […]

It's funny because the narration is sort of like "those bumbling haters were not prepared for the clever vigilantes" But what's on screen really muddies the waters: the better trained and better equipped uniformed federal agents seem to be having fun while massacring the locals

There's a documentary on Disney Plus called "Aftershock: Beyond the Civil War" It's not really a great history of post-war violence but it's definitely a good introduction to the fact that there was a great deal of organized fighting for a long time beyond the end of the war Of special note […]

@Andres4NY I will say, the last time I replaced a derailleur I bought the wrong one, so my 10 speed has been like a 5 speed for the last 5 years Anyway, LBS can be a great deal

@Andres4NY Derailleurs does seem smart for as many bikes as you have: you could use all the money you save on hub replacements to just pay a mechanic at the LBS and never worry about chain sizes again

If we had such a technology, I don't think we would take round trips. What would be the point? We can't feasibly advance science by returning. Our ship and our science will be 5 million years out of date when we return. Humanity might be nothing but transdimensional AI by then Instead, we would […]
