#NowPlaying The debut EP from The Great Unwashed is here. 5 songs/30 mins of Sigur Ros/GYBE/Talk Talk inspired post-rock/slowcore. "I Do Try" is already the song of the year, "In Death" runs it close & "Call to the Morning" is just beautiful 🎶 thegreatunwashedofficial.bandcamp.com/album/the-gr...

I've been enjoying Phoebe Bridgers' new one - and I can't get enough of Hania Rani's 'Non Fiction' from last year. If you enjoy modern classical, it's recommended.

I've since listened to her other albums and there's a treasure trove of material in there, Allan. Glad you're enjoying.

It's by design. If you wrote a message that said "I hate Asians", you could only imagine the types of replies. However, if you then change that to "I hate agents" (real estate), it takes on a whole new meaning and the original replies would look odd.

Having your drinks spiked is not good, Jimmy. I hope that you were okay afterwards and were able to enjoy the Mogwai gig. A similar thing once happened to me abroad and it's kinda scary.

#NowPlaying #NewRelease L'RAIN Fata Morgana This genre-spanning album is pretty hard to classify or even describe. Vocals are layered, manipulated and stretched across drifting beats. In some parts, it's Sneaker Pimps, elsewhere an electronic Cocteau Twins. It's absolutely excellent.

Those early Verve EPs are pretty special. In some respects, Verve and Talk Talk are very different beasts - Verve would start a song and build it up in layers, and Talk Talk would often start also from a quiet base but then remove elements to create lots of space.

'Spies', 'Everything's Not Lost' and 'See You Soon' etc. They allow the melody to do the bulk of the work. Just wonderful.

Sorry for the delay, mate, I've been away for a few days. I love the purity of those early songs, written and recorded on an acoustic guitar and not much more added on top when they came to record the songs. I've learnt a fair bit from the way that they structure songs, particularly .../2

I read Jeff's book on songwriting recently, it's really interesting and entertaining. Lots of useful tips and examples - and it never gets overly detailed, so it's really easy for non-musical people to consume.

I've just finished reading this fab book written by a guy originally employed as a junior reporter for Melody Maker, then went on to become editor it before becoming the editor of Uncut magazine for 15 years. It's a fantastic read, lots of funny anecdotes about music folk.

So glad that you're enjoying them, Gav. There's a very large back catalogue to go at for both Zelienople and Matt Christensen. Outside of ambient/drone, he's one of the most prolific artists that I know.

I remember buying my copy at the infamous Power Cuts record shop in Manchester, a brilliant shop in the '80s/90s, particularly for cheap American/Canadian imports. I don't quite know how they did it, they were a fraction of the price of HMV/Virgin/Our Price.

#NowPlaying #LiveMusic AGNES OBEL An incredible performance tonight at Aviva Studios in Manchester. Firstly, the sound quality is off the scale. The musicians are absolutely top class - and the songs soar. The new songs are sounding fabulous too.

I've just spoken with them. They said that there's currently nowhere in Ireland that they export it to, but Wetherspoon's may have some from time to time, though they ship it across themselves (in kegs, not bottles). If/when I ever come over, remind me to bring a case!

Those early albums are wonderful, immersive pieces of work. I recently bought the 'Zoolook' remaster and that blew my mind as a teenager, it was just so "out there". He felt like he was on his own for several years making this kind of music before others caught up.

I was a big fan of these guys. There was a definite Bauhaus feel to the music (unsurprisingly!) but they also splintered off in different directions, particularly with songs such as 'Go!'. I bought their 'Everything' compilation some years back and it's an absolute feast!

It's been hot here again today - but much cooler than yesterday - at 28°C. Tomorrow is set to drop to 21°C for several days before it warms back up the following week to close to 30°C, so enjoy the respite, Steve!
