#GameDev, #IndieDev, #UnrealEngine - I'm still working on the Interaction system series, part 3 is taking extra time. This is because the episode is close to an hour long. I should get it out the door tomorrow at some point, after that, episodes will be shorter as most of the hard will be completed!

Because of the rise in GPU prices, which won't come down any time soon, #GameDev studios will HAVE to go back to optimizing correctly. You can't sell games if #gamers can't run them. Rises aren't due to gamer demand, but hardware companies abandoning us for AI. We also need an Nvidia alternative.

While I work on part 2 of the interaction system series, somebody out there needs to distract me for a few moments with the first video game story line that made them tear up! Mine for sure was Final Fantasy VII. #Gamers, #Gaming, #GameDev, #IndieDev

Great! Then you could telegraph stuff with a consistent pattern, but then in this level, switch it up to pull the rug... Maybe highlight that something is happening, but make them focus on something different. They'll try to prepare & the rug pull will feel like less of a trap & more of a mind game.

Part 5! If you do something like the above comments mention, you'll give your players a nice flow to the experience, an easier way to understand where they went wrong after failing, and it'll really help with the dopamine hit when they understand the problem.

Player Foundry @playerfoundry.bsky.social · 28/02/2025
Part 4! Bonus points if the call to action is something you re-use in your game. Think about how certain iconic games use a specific color, or animation, or object in their games (The last of us and Uncharted's use of the color Yellow is my to go to for explaining this).

Player Foundry @playerfoundry.bsky.social · 28/02/2025
Part 3! It doesn't need to be too obvious as to make it easy, maybe some blocks blink, or maybe there's a slight color shift, or a camera shake. But let them know something is about to happen, and build their expectation that they need to be ready to take action.

Player Foundry @playerfoundry.bsky.social · 28/02/2025
Part 2! So let's talk about what the user actually sees here. Developers will often miss this, and players get confused. You see the part where the player falls through the path at the end? If you warn the player, they'll be prepared for evading action, and wont feel sucker punched.

Part 1! Excellent - So, first off, congratulations on making something that looks so amazing. Isometric games speak to my soul for some reason, you've clearly spent a lot of time making this, and the floating path mechanic is a nice touch for keeping a player engaged, I LOVE the idea.

Hey @mazestalker.bsky.social - You open to some advice on this game mechanic? I love the concept, and have some thought on how to make it a little more polished for players. Figured I'd ask permission before I jump in here, especially if you aren't looking for feedback yet!

Especially if those "cool looking people" are the "Be more alpha male" types. Those guys crack me up. It's not even like I'm against the message, it's just that for a bunch of "Alpha's", they sure are fragile.

Love to see it Jamie! One of my all time favorite titles was The Legend of Mir II, it was an exceptional MMORPG back in the day. It's still going now, but the official version is just micro-transactions all the way down.

Wow - this really captures the look and feel of the early Pokémon games on the Gameboy Color era. I've seen a lot of attempts to do this, and it isn't as easy as it looks. I especially like the sprite animation here, very tidy. Great work so far!

000
Player Foundry @playerfoundry.bsky.social · 17/02/2025
UX in #GameDesign is often extremely over-looked. However, some studios really do it well. In particular, #NaughtyDog makes use of the color yellow so well in #TheLastOfUs & #Uncharted, that #Gamers instantly know what to do & focus is on the challenge. #GameDev do you think is also great at UX?

On this day in 1995... Sega released Ristar. Objectively, it's a decent game, but as a child, I despised it. Probably because Sega actually wanted to replace my beloved Sonic the Hedgehog with him! What’s your take on Ristar? #GamingHistory #RetroGaming #Gaming
I still haven't forgiven them for wanting to do this to Sonic.
