Production and arrangement-wise it's usually Number Girl driving all my decisions but Go-Betweens' melodies and lyrics are really hard to top. A lot of the time where people hear Smiths in my stuff it's actually them (love The Smiths, of course. Another high favorite)

The other guerilla marketing tactic has been to just leave CDs in places I go to often. No idea whether this is actually working yet but CDs have definitely disappeared

Decided AFTER the Good Flying Birds/Touch Girl Apple Blossom show that I'd start carrying around demo CDs to hand bands I really like. Should have had this thought 24 hours sooner

I try not to be a stickler about songforms/traditions and whatnot because I'm a student of art and not an arbiter but I think that writers do themselves a disservice when they do this. As a listener it makes me feel like you left it off because you're out of ideas rather than for artistic reasons

Makes me ponder the extinction of the third verse and the way that I see so many songwriters at these tiny local gigs write 2 verses and a bridge and then cut the song off and fail to stick the landing as a result
