My phone's been randomly restarting for a few days now so I've basically been trial running the whole "no streaming services" thing Turns out it's kind of awesome

My phone's been randomly restarting for the past 2 days so I'm beginning to live with CDs+DAP. Turns out it's honestly not that bad. Becoming convinced that streaming bad. Who could have guessed?

Had been on the hunt for a decent CD player. I think my search is over but I have a new problem: this thing is fucking huge

Front view of a record shelf, a CD player on top, and a record player on top of that. Part of Robert the cat is visible

Side view. The record player now has to rest on 3 volumes of manga, a Neil Gaiman book, and a Robocop blue-ray

Been reading Mood Machine by Liz Pelly. Truly bleak stuff

Been ripping a bunch of CDs this evening and there is some BULLSHIT in my collection that my mom and/or I should not have acquired

So it seems like accidentally giving people early access to a song on Bandcamp (at least with unlimited streaming) 2 weeks early didn't lead to any sales. Learning much

My cat Robert and I are here to remind you that Eight Pictures' song "Do-Nothing" hits streaming at midnight. Jangly noisy pop Hüsker Dü Smiths Go-Betweens Lemonheads whatever man

A black cat being given the middle finger. A CD showing a different image of the same cat being flipped off is next to him. He reaches inquisitively for the finger

A black cat being held by a person with a sweater, black glasses, and partially dyed hair. The cat's eyes are washed out by the cameraflash

Single art for "Do-Nothing" by Eight Pictures. A black cat is getting flipped off by the person behind the camera

Single should be out at midnight but it's already on Bandcamp because of my blunder the other week

Have we figured out where people who hate web design and don't want to paywall their long form posts go? I'm wanting to hop off of Substack

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 15/04/2026

Every time somebody asks me about my influences my #1 answer is The Go-Betweens. Good god, man

100

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 14/04/2026

Moonflower Plastic really is one of the most wonderful albums of all time and nobody talks about it

100

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 14/04/2026

It's always shocking to me how little people expect others to buy their music. One time I bought a friend's EP on Bandcamp (I think it was name your price) and he DMed me on Instagram offering to Venmo me my $5 back

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 14/04/2026

Found a copy of Secondhand Daylight I thought I gave to my dad. We are #up

The second single will be on everything other than Bandcamp on Friday btw It's already on Bandcamp but you know

April 2026: Is It Spring Cleaning?

Hi, everyone.

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 07/04/2026

Finally remembered Unrest and found out that they're on Bandcamp! Perfect Teeth, however, is not. Still picked up Imperial FFRR but it's a shame I couldn't get Six Layer Cake on to my mp3 player

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 06/04/2026

I think William Goldsmith in Sunny Day Real Estate was one of the first gigs where I remember thinking, "Damn, this guy's good" Souleymane Ibrahim from Mdou Moctar, though, probably takes the #1 spot

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 05/04/2026

So I accidentally put out my band's second single way too early. Go listen to it. eightpictures.bandcamp.com/track/do-not...

My dad managed to find me The Go-Betweens' 16 Lovers Lane on LP and gave it to me at yesterday's gig! Crazy holy grail record of mine

We are out of stickers again

A stack of 14 CDs. Eight Pictures - How's This?

Each CD is in a paper sleeve with a sticker that has an 8P! design

Working on the album art for a new single

A GIMP editing window open to a turquoise-tinted photo of the person behind the camera flipping off a cat with the words "Eight Pictures - Do-Nothing" written above it.

Just recorded a video of a cover and saw that it was 3:02 when I went to post it. Trimmed it down and suddenly it's not compatible. I'm being sabotaged when all I want to do is prove I can play Spring Rain ahead of this gig on Monday

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

Wondering if I should just write a bunch of 2 verse no bridge acoustic songs specifically for posting here

Here's an acoustic version of one of my little songs that's within the Bluesky time limit. Band name is Eight Pictures and I've been mixing studio versions of this and more stuff lately but we have a song on streaming already

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 24/03/2026

Decided AFTER the Good Flying Birds/Touch Girl Apple Blossom show that I'd start carrying around demo CDs to hand bands I really like. Should have had this thought 24 hours sooner

110

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 24/03/2026

Was going to post a video playing one of my little songs on an acoustic but apparently 3 minutes is the limit and this one's like 3:20ish

Busking for the first time in my life tomorrow for my birthday oh boy oh boy

100

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 12/03/2026

We haven't gotten to get back into the studio and mastering takes time and money so I've just burned some CDs myself to sell at gigs and maybe just leave around town. Whatever, man

A CD from my band Eight Pictures, titled "How's This?"
Tracklist, covered by a loose sticker in the paper envelope holding it:
1. No Love Lost
2. 15 Months (Live @ WUOG)
3. Do-Nothing (Unmastered)

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 10/03/2026

Have had 2 coffee shops close before we could play the gigs we'd arranged with them this year. 2 nickels situation. Anyway buy No Love Lost by Eight Pictures on Bandcamp or whatever

100

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 01/03/2026

I don't think I actually have any locals here that wouldn't have seen this already but I'm playing an acoustic in a park on my birthday and made a flyer for it

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 24/02/2026

DO NOT LET ME INTO THAT LOCAL RECORD STORE I WILL BUY STUFF

020

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 24/02/2026

About halfway through Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I think I generally prefer Spy Who Came in from the Cold's character focus over the sort of procedural nature of this one but part of that might be that I had to start this book over a time or two

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 23/02/2026

Fucked up the guitar interlude from The Go-Betweens' Spring Rain during a breakout practice with our drummer. Can never show my face here again

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE LINUX YES I'M NOT VERY SMART NO DON'T REPLY TO ME

Considering the prospect of a guerilla gig. Just showing up with an acoustic in a park some evening

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 19/02/2026

Was given one of those goofy migraine caps recently and used it today. Really great for however long it stays cold

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 18/02/2026

I need Perennial to come back to Athens sooner rather than later I think about that gig nearly every day and I wish I could share that memory with more than like one friend of mine

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 16/02/2026

Happened to find a copy of The Stars Are Insane by Versus the other day. Criminally overlooked band You could dismiss them as loud-quiet waveriders but there's a certain precision and delicacy with which they approach the whole thing that sets the album apart

Album cover for Versus' The Stars Are Insane

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 16/02/2026

Tried to put Swirlies' "They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days in the Glittering World of the Salons" on a DAP of mine today and was having a ton of difficulty with it. Turns out that the album just broke some kind of character limit

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 16/02/2026

New single at some point soon. It's called Do-Nothing and while it was on that demo tape from a while ago it's practically a different song now

110

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 09/02/2026

I wasn't really into it when I watched an episode of the anime ages and ages ago but reading Nana's made me a fan, I think. Might need to revisit

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 09/02/2026

Going through my collection today. A bunch of things I keep forgetting I have on CD: Lush - Split UNKLE - Psyence Fiction Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman The Lush CD I actually found at a thrift store, which seems crazy

000

J @plasticmylar.bsky.social · 09/02/2026

Updating my mp3 player finally with some Ted Leo, The Fall, and +/- (Versus-adjacent project), Perennial, and glocca morra. Would be adding more but my car with a bunch of CDs I was going to copy is still at the shop rn
