This took me way longer to finish than I wanted it to. Believe me, it sucks when you start progress on a model, only to completely halt progress on it, because your motivation suddenly tanked.

Progenitors of Earth The two planets that collided to form Earth and Moon, just before collision. I assume their mantles have partially solidified, injecting water vapour into their thick atmospheres and turning them blue under the clouds. #art #astronomy #space #SolarSystem #planet #Earth
This artwork depicts two planets, Theia "The Plot Device" and Proto-Earth "The Biologist's Progenitor".

Both planets are white from water clouds, which preferentially form at the poles and on nightside, whereas the dayside has patchy clouds, floating over a bluish atmosphere, the colour coming from water vapour absorption. They are both tinted by some sort of yellowish haze (perhaps sulfur haze). Proto-Earth is the larger of the two, and is depicted to be slightly cloudier less blue, and less hazy.

So I found this old 2D illustration of a brown dwarf that I made a couple years ago, back when I was experimenting with making digitally-painted art with my graphics tablet. Out of all the projects that I have attempted however, this is the only one that I actually had the motivation to finish.
A 2D illustration of a (T-Type) brown dwarf star, hand-painted in Photoshop using a graphics tablet. A large storm akin to the Great Red Spot on Jupiter, can be seen near the equator of the brown dwarf.

A study on drawing a hot Jupiter's nightside. The dayside is overexposed. The nightside is pinkish from the combination of blackbody radiation and absorption from Na/K/H2O, similar to brown dwarfs. #art #astronomy #space #planet #exoplanet #HotJupiter
This image depicts a hot Jupiter's crescent, being illuminated by a host star located off-screen to the bottom left. The dayside, being overexposed, is pure white, and the atmosphere shows up as a white glow surrounding the dayside. The nightside is dull pinkish, with cooler clouds showing up as darker regions. The two large hemispherical storms appear on the image as well.

#DigitalPainting of #Jupiter, as it would have appeared on 1672 January 19th at 4:45 AM, based on a sketch by Giovanni #Cassini Cassini is usually seen as the discoverer of the Great Red Spot, but modern analyses suggest his Permanent Spot is a different storm and GRS appeared in the 19th century.
Photorealistic digital painting of Jupiter. It is a large off-white slightly oval spheroid, with two dark belts running through it, somewhat asymmetrically relative to the equator. The swirling orange North Equatorial Belt is visible as usual, but the South Equatorial Belt is mysteriously absent (or at least white), instead, the dark belt in the south is the gray South Temperate Belt. The polar regions, which on Jupiter are normally dark brown-gray, are quite pale and low contrast in this drawing. North of the South Temperate Belt is a circular spiralling gray-brown spot, like a dull version of the famous Great Red Spot, about the size of Earth, or 1/11th the size of the planet. Near the southeast limb, there is a smaller red oval storm at the same latitude. The moon Io is visible as a small yellow dot in front of the planet, and the moon Callisto is visible off to the left of the image.

Digital Painting #Art #SpaceArt of #Jupiter as it would have appeared on 1927 October 2nd at 12:40 AM GMT. This is based upon photographs taken by W.H. Wright using the Lick Observatory's 36" Great Refractor.
Digital painting of Jupiter. The South Equatorial Belt is missing, and the Great Red Spot is enormous and with a white center. Callisto is visible behind the northern limb, and Europa and its shadow are transiting the south equatorial region.

Hi, folks. Here's an old but favourite animation I did in 2013 depicting the Earth-Moon system in infancy. This is shortly after a Mars-sized body ('Theia') hit the proto-Earth. The Earth reformed, and the Moon coalesced out of the rest of the debris. #SciArt #3Danimation #3dsmax

I actually made the suggestion for the edit with how the unlit side of the rings are rendered. Before if the planet's phase angle were at 150°-180°, then they'd just look solid black like the main disk of the planet. Of course this isn't how the rings would actually look like, hence my request.
The rings appear pitch black when viewed from phase angle 150°-180°, and were only visible as a dark silhouette against the glow of the host star.

The Artemis II crew are well equipped for photography and are paying attention to the opportunities. On the outbound leg of their journey to the Moon this photo showing global scale dim light phenomena was obtained. I have removed the interior cabin lights reflections and adjusted the brightness.
This photograph of the night side of Earth was obtained yesterday after the completion of the trans Lunar engine burn. The original image has been rotated to have North near the top, and the overall tonal values have been adjusted to in my judgement better represent the brightness range between the Moonlit Earth and the bright limb. I have manually removed a couple interior lights reflections from the image. Venus is at the upper left, and the dim fuzzy conical Zodiacal Light looms from behind Earth. The hidden Sun is behind the upper left portion of Earth. Stars are recorded, a rarity in such photography. Aurorae are visible as light green outlines standing apart from the polar regions. Across the entire night side a detached dim olive green 'Airglow' layer outlines the edge, or 'limb' of Earth. City lights are clustered near the coastal regions of the land masses.
