J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I love horror shows and films and watch mainly that genre. Sometimes, I think about posting more movie reviews. Then I think maybe I should keep some things I for myself instead of making it a post. Social media is always trying to push you to "post what you like," but I wanna keep liking it. 😩 110
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Social media is so overrun with bots and bot campaigns, it's a joke. Why use it anymore? I logged into Reddit today and ten posts are about the same person, all random subreddits, all basically the same arguments. Then I refresh and new topic but the same. Bots, bots, bots. It's not worth using. 110
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 29/08/2026Psychotic disorders may or can cause a severe detachment from reality. During an episode, individuals may not or cannot understand the nature or consequences of their actions. Because criminal intent requires a conscious choice, standard punitive action is entirely inappropriate for medical crises. 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 29/08/2026My partner worked at a prison alternative for people who committed violent crimes during psychosis (rare). Psychotic disorders are misunderstood, undertreated, and cause a severe detachment from reality. They are medical crises, not standard criminal intent, and must be evaluated differently. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 29/08/2026I see many conservatives are posting all the time now about women with peripartum psychosis killing their kids, like how they post about immigrant crime. It's another way to attack a group they hate. Women, those with mental illness. If they wanted to help kids, they'd fund mental health services. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 25/08/2026Taylor Lorenz posting about social media addiction not being real (you can't be addicted to talking to your friends, I saw her say) reminded me of this meme. 030
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 23/08/2026I'd be okay with case closure decreasing if it meant getting rid of flock cameras. It seems US society is unfortunately trending toward more surveillance and oversight for the average person and less for the wealthy and corporations. Each generation accepts a little more invasion of their privacy. 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 21/08/2026If you are disturbed by some women supporting Lindsay Clancy because they empathize with (underacknowledged) peripartum psychosis, you should see how many men support and defend other men who beat, rape, enslave or traffic, and murder women. The men don't even usually have a mental illness defense. 111
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 17/08/2026I never thought I'd say that I am tired of seeing videos depicting kittens, but I hate videos of dancing AI kittens. They're bad and obnoxious. Dancing AI kitten videos take what makes a kitten cute, such as that it doesn't usually dance on two legs, and turns it unlikeable and grotesque. Garbage! 011
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 16/08/2026I don't like Hasan Piker much even though I agree with him on various social and political topics. He's justified in suing Scott Jennings for defamation. Defamation laws are generally a good thing; social liars do more harm than defamation lawsuits. I think liars should face steeper consequences. 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Under Taylor Lorenz's flawed logic, social media addiction doesn't happen, which flies in the face of industry reality and psychological data. Note, I got her to delete a post saying kids should actually spend more time on social media by citing psychology lit showing the harm. She is hack. 030
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Media and advertisement companies have spent billions on psychological manipulation tactics and refining their algorithms specifically to keep users hooked. One has to wonder why they would bother if Taylor Lorenz is correct that social media is not addictive, if it's just friends chatting. 130
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Taylor Lorenz denies social media addiction by equating it to the idea that you can't be addicted to talking to your friends. Her reasoning largely ignores the extensive literature on echo chambers and filter bubbles, among other things. Her view seems woefully compromised. 150
Reposted by J. Gibson📚 Ellie Rhymer! Spaceships and Scoundrels 📚 @ellieyellu.bsky.social · 01/08/2026Welcome to 🧡 Summer of Love 🧡 a daily prompt game for everyone writing in the romance genre! What's up? What are you working on? How long have you been writing? Tell us everything! Well, tell us enough 😅 I'm excited to chat with you this month. Don't forget to tag #SumLuv 88410
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 01/08/2026I saw someone say "boycotting media is Woke 1.0." Is this true? So far, I see Woke 2.0/Dark Woke means mainly White leftists on social media think they can use ableist slurs and be racist and sexist if the target is politically convenient. What else does Woke 2.0 do to mirror reactionary behavior? 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 20/07/2026I've started a hot debate across my friend groups, so I thought I'd ask here: do you peel your peaches or eat them with the skin on? Everyone seems to think the answer is obvious until someone else disagrees! 200
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 13/07/2026You ever write something and then go back and read a single line randomly in a previous book and realize your current effort has a major timeline continuity error? 🤣 Fixable, but! So much to remember. The fun and the struggle. #WritingCommunity 140
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 09/07/2026One reason I could never support Hasan even though I do agree with him on various social and political topics, I genuinely think he is a pathological liar and he attracts and inspires liars. He can never take accountability for anything. And his most ardent fans are like a cult. 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 09/07/2026Users on Hasan Piker's subreddit are discussing the revisionist history he and others are doing about Hasan and his fans supporting Graham Platner. Thing is, Hasan and his fans always do this. They lie often. Everything is "out of context." But this time, he may have gone too far to lie his way out. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 08/07/2026I think most online outside of Hasan Piker and many of his fans saw Graham Platner was a bad bet from the start. I'm still not sure why they went in so hard for him. The pro-Platner sentiment almost felt like astroturfing that actually worked and hoodwinked Hasan and his community. A bit unnerving. 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 07/07/2026Wild watching a large part of Hasan Piker's community now argue he never liked Graham Platner much. Their usual revisionist history. His subreddit went from mostly pro-Platner to disliking him overnight. Bots? Astroturfing? Are many White leftist American men online just horrible allies? All three? 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 07/07/2026On Graham Platner, American commentators need to care much more about non-Americans who aren't White. Have a moral, material center. Americans are so indoctrinated by American exceptional/imperialism, even on the left. Overlook direct participation in racist slaughter to win a single seat in Maine. 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 05/07/2026I've decided to split the fourth book on my series into four internal "parts." I like when books do this and I had an idea for an arc I think (hope) will be exciting to write and read. #WritingCommunity 020
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 04/07/2026Social media is ~60% bots talking to and posting for each other so billionaires and millionaires can trade money back and forth while extracting wealth from average folk little by little. Then ~60% of the content posted by humans for humans is extreme or rage-bait trying to break through the noise. 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 03/07/2026I agree meaning is 50% intent and 50% audience interpretation, but I usually consider the creator's intent (outside of biases) for a story canon. So, that ruins alternative interpretation for me! 110
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Anyone else dislike when directors, authors, and other creators explain all the mysteries of their stories? I think if something in a creation proper was intentionally ambiguous, you should leave it that way instead of explaining it. Discussing possibilities is half the fun! 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 28/06/2026I've been rewriting hours a day for weeks. Might post a chapter of my series prequel and send it in a newsletter. I go back and read the writing in my first books and see prose I'd change in nearly every paragraph! Mainly cutting unnecessary words I wouldn't use now. 😩 Oh, well. #WritingCommunity 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 24/06/2026More people should know Anthony Fantano is essentially a SlopTuber who engagement baits by being a lame, smug jackass on social media. I think he often rates music in any genre, maybe outside of rap, based on how he feels about the artist rather than the merits of the immediate music in question. 011
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 24/06/2026It's a shame that there are so many thoughtful experts in various fields who receive essentially no attention online because they make even-handed, evidence-based arguments. But the many who are loudest and most absolutist, even when wrong, get nearly all the eyes because of social media algorithms. 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Taylor Lorenz is compulsively online (and argues that social media addiction is largely myth, despite seemingly being a strong example of it herself). Many people like her, overall, because she props up their favorite creators, but I have yet to see that she follows an evidence-based worldview. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Every few months, people are surprised to see Taylor Lorenz doing something gross online. This is the person who argues social media is good for kids and quietly deleted one such post when I shared evidence from psychology showing, in general, it isn't. She's not a great advocate for progressivism. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 23/06/2026What I want to do is review Reddit threads about HotD and blog on everything I think is wrong with what some thought was wrong, lol. You think chasing your enemy through a narrow passage is a bad idea, wait until you read the many blunders of actual historical warfare! Even Tiberius made mistakes. 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 23/06/2026We need to teach folk to research/interpret media. To not apply, for example, modern "logic" about castle defense or warfare to shows inspired by history. Usually erroneous. Or to know the meaning of "plot hole" instead of thinking it's when there was any alternative in a story to what happened. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Olivia Cooke is a phenomenal actor and deleted her Instagram over hate about HotD. (I think a lot of the criticism of the show isn't sensible, but GRRM didn't help the matter with his blog post.) GRRM spends most of his time traveling/whinging about people bullying him for not finishing his work. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 23/06/2026I enjoyed seasons 1/2 of House of the Dragon and episode 1 of 3. I finally read one of George RR Martin's books last year. It was pretty good. But I think it's gross to attack an adaptation of your work, leave the actors to be harassed by your fans, then say nothing to defend them. So, fuck GRRM. 110
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 23/06/2026My partner and I attend concerts each year and saw Halsey live in 2025. It's safe to say her show experience was far more enjoyable than any content I've ever watched by smarmy jerk Anthony Fantano. It's a bit apples and oranges, but I think we often lend "professional critics" too much credence. 020

J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 18/06/2026Reddit would be a lot more enjoyable to use if there was a tool to automatically block anyone who uses a snark subreddit. I don't get on there much because Reddit is so toxic, but that would take care of one of the worst elements. Snark spaces insulate the mind from all normal reason about a topic. 010
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 17/06/2026If you reply to something I post and I don't respond, please don't take it personally. I generally post using a centralized social media app and then close the app immediately for the day. I'm sure I do miss many interesting replies, but this is the way I enjoy my life. 😬 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 17/06/2026Of course, there are folk for whom certain social media communities are their only positive outlets. If you are one of those people, you should do whatever makes you happy. I hope that all people are able to find some space where they feel they belong, that brings something good into their lives. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 17/06/2026I think the best thing we can do is minimize social media use when possible. Enjoy life, spend time with loved ones. Watch, read, play, do what makes us happy. Get involved/advocate in our communities offline. Cutting my social media use down to two/fewer hours a week has been nothing but positive. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 15/06/2026Most people need to hear at least simple concepts of plans to be persuaded toward them, even if the concepts of a plan are nonsense. Prison abolitionists have a similar weakness, specifically since a lot ideas about transformative justice are tough to describe. The explanations problem is endemic. 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 15/06/2026I think a problem the left has is explanation. Most leftists can tell you what they think revolution should be, but far fewer the hows of everything after. I watched a stream of Hasan Piker once where he couldn't explain how his ideal system would actually function. Most capitalists can do this. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Schooling taught me to investigate facts by setting out to prove my assumptions or hypothesis or perspective wrong. That led me to several changes of opinion over the last decade. I think the internet would be a much better place if people cared about truth more than partisanship and popularity. 000
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Is anyone else sometimes demoralized by all the lying on the internet and in media? People say things about others without any proof, or even the implication of seeking the truth. Hyperpartisanship feels hopelessly out of control. There's no broad space online for "regular" people anymore. 100
J. Gibson @planarlost.bsky.social · 12/06/2026I'm in a bad way. 😭🤣 You are right. They say no work is ever finished, only abandoned, so I may have to abandon soon! 110
