There are no leaders in the establishment Democratic Party, just a collection of slightly moudly vegetables slowly fusing to their seats in the Senate chamber.

As expected, cracks are starting to show in the battlefield dominance of drones. Like machine guns in WW1, a tactical technological problem is finding operational doctrinal solutions. No matter how good your drones, you'll lose if the drones can't make it to the front and your operators are dead.

In war technology is always a tool in the toolbox, never a panacea. It is important that we learn the right lessons from this conflict, and it is just as important not to overhype a system as it is to not underhype one. Drones shape the battlefield, but must actually *be present* in large numbers.

This isn't claiming drones are useless, they are clearly devastating weapons. But if Russian drone teams are cut off from resupply, their stockpiles are destroyed or used up, they aren't getting orders from command, and their launch sites are discovered and targeted, then conventional war returns.

Ukraine is almost entirely reliant on their own drone force and infiltration raids to destroy Russian logistics and drone teams. They do not have the air supremacy NATO would have in a hypothetical war that could locate and destroy Russian logistics and command hubs and kill Russian drone teams.

We've seen Ukrainian tanks operating out in the open during Operation Vivaldi, something that should be impossible if the hypothesis of drone supremacy were true. This is despite the relative primitiveness of anti-drone weapon systems today, and despite Ukraine's resources as "only" a middle power.

Thinking back to that one time that McDonald's psyoped the whole world into thinking a 79 year old woman who spilt coffee on herself was suing them because she didn't realize coffee was hot, when in reality she'd received third degree burns on her lap within seconds of the coffee landing on her.

They were. There was a belief in the South that if black people were ever freed there would be a race war that destroyed the white South and then the country. When that didn't materialize it was psychologically impossible to admit you fought for nothing, so the Lost Cause myth began soon after.

I will never forget the time a friend of mine, who was not into politics, told me they'd vote for Mitt Romney over Obama because Romney dressed better. People who talk on social media truly to not comprehend the concept of the "low-information voter." They give them way too much credit.

Yeah but what will happen is that normal people will see these freaks openly get off on the execution and be viscerally repulsed by it, resulting in backlash. And there's a lot more normal people than their are sick freaks. The sickos are going to get their rocks off either way. Let it be exposed.

The biggest lie in modern US politics is the CIA tricked the public into supporting invading Iraq. In truth it was bipartisan in 2003/4 that we hadn't killed enough Middle Easterners yet, and Iraq was a convient target. Opinion only turned against GWOT in 2011. It's a 21st century Lost Cause myth.

I was old enough to remember what those times were like. The bloodlust was off the charts. The shit you could say back then was wild. "Glass the whole Middle East" was a common refrain. It wasn't just Republicans, it was everyone. We as a country collectively decided to memory hole it all.

It's much easier to blame the CIA for tricking you into supporting a war than it is to admit you were happy to support an emotional support war until it became obvious it was going wrong. Just like Confederates didn't want to admit they were fighting to preserve slavery. It's a collective US cope.

I still remember when it was perfectly socially acceptable for pundits to go on national TV and say "we should just glass the whole Middle East and be done with *those* people."

The whole practice is degrading. The death penalty originally went away in so many places because it used to be public and people were forced to confront the reality of executing people. Hiding it away lets good people ignore it and bad people romanticize it. The reality is ugly and obscene.

If they insist on carrying this out then let this be another pr disaster for the administration and death penalty supporters. The whole practice is a farce, so let it be a public farce.

As someone who is anti death penalty I fully support all executions to be done in public. There's a reason why the death penalty lost support previously. When they are public everyone is forced to confront the reality of the practice. Hiding them away where nobody has to see them is moral cowardice.

It's gay to like women, unless that woman used to be a man you knew and competed against. The only solution to preserve Western Civilization is to let trans women in sports.

If I was on death row and had two botched injections just put a bullet in the back of my head and be done with it. What kind of sadistic shit is this to spend a week reviving someone just to execute them later? This is all just to make pro-death penalty people feel better about what they're doing.

There's a reason the death penalty became unpopular. It's because it was out in the open and awful to watch. The only reason it survives is because it is done in secret and dressed up as humane. It's gross, and it creates absurd and farcical atrocities like the one going on right now.

Death penalty supporters are moral cowards who can't stomach what it is they are doing so have to hide the killing away and veil it in air of clinical medicine. If we're going to have them it should be public and visibly brutal. Firing squads, hangings, guillotines. Force people to see the reality.

I finally figured out why MSNBC pisses me off so much. All the pundits always have ear-to-ear grins and sparkles in their eyes whenever they talk about current events. They behave as if everything happening is gossip fodder for the water cooler, and it's so clear none of them are affected by it.

The Russians are expecting us to believe that an anti-plague researcher just so happened to be infected by an unknown pathogen that's definitely not pneumonic plague, but that causes fatal pneumonia potentially contagious enough to require a lockdown. What a fascinating coincidence that is.

Okay, I am slightly less sleep deprived. Let me explain. It's not the nature of the incident in and of itself that worried me. An anti-plague institute having a death from plague is not inherently suspicious or worrying. What's worrying is the intense, Moscow-led response and immediate censorship.

I simply just do not trust the Russian government's response to this. Everything I know about Russian political culture is screaming "cover-up" to me. I'm convinced whatever is happening there right now is worse then they are saying and - natural or artificial - that's not good news.

up about this is because the timeline for scenario 2 getting off the rails is very short, and the outcomes are extremely devastating. If it's scenario 1 then it's better odds that even Russia can contain it, but there's a chance they can't. If it's 2 then the only time to prepare is right now.

The facts we have right now point to two possibilities: 1. Russian officials are embarrassed about the leak of plague in an area historically prone to outbreaks, and worry about an outbreak in a major Russian city. Plausible. 2. It's not a natural strain of plague. The reason I am extremely worked

Regardless of whether the outbreak in Russia is a bioweapon or not, pneumonic plague is extremely serious in either form and has the potential to become a pandemic. Obviously a natural form is much easier to contain, but in either case consider the risk compared to the price of some good PPE.

Locality Requisitioner @placeholder56.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I am seriously considering purchasing some heavy duty PPE, specifically respitory PPE. N95 masks wouldn't be sufficient. I'm talking gas masks. I would encourage others to follow this situation closely and make similar considerations.

I am extremely worried about what is going on in Irkutsk, Russia right now. If this really turns out to be pneumonic plague then it is very possible it is a Soviet/Russian bioweaponized version. The location is right ("former" bioweapon research location) and the Russian admin seems panicked.
