I think the only time I've ever seen a good retro-game sequence in an anime is the ED of Tadaima, Ojamasaremasu! from this past spring. All the rest of them, including those from video game shows like Shangri-la Frontier, are all affronts to god, though this one's probably the worst.

It's just so freaking intuitive. Best pixelart/image editing tool. I actually made a DS1/2/3 button prompts mod for Persona 4 Golden with it, other modders told me to just use vectors, after I was done, and just thought "I already have a finished product, what the fuck is a vector?"

i gave arknights endfield a second chance and the factory consumed my soul, so i'm a few episodes behind, but s1 had a slight fantasy epic sort of vibe to it that I really liked and feel was lost in s2. it's not a show-killer difference, but i hesitate to agree that it might be better than s1 for it
