Missed this while I was on holiday - this is a nightmare if you're responsible for infosec 😭 We had a couple of machines fail their Nessus scan at CE+ assessment because of outdated libraries in vendor/bundle for old git clones - this is way worse. simonwillison.net/2026/Sep/1/c...

I'd not come across this quote before but it really resonates how software development, which has been previously open to people from less privileged backgrounds like myself, will become just another profession requiring access to familial wealth to progress in.

The Sainbury's website is down and judging by the errors I saw in the console before they put up a holding page I think they may have been caught napping by Chrome's deprecation of the unload event that's been happening this summer developer.chrome.com/docs/web-pla...

Turbo also breaks 1Password (and probably other PW managers) with its morphing behaviour on clicking links - you have to disable it for login forms and the links that take you to the login form.

Getting a bunch of React2Shell requests across a range of Rails apps so I guess OpenAI agents have gone "rogue" again.

Seems like the Rails debug exception page is broken if you're using Turbo and have a Content-Security-Policy header? Without Turbo the exception page clears the CSP but Turbo's replace the body behaviour leaves the original CSP in place and breaks the inline <script>/<style> elements 😭

We had a client's website with an events calendar that was struggling because AI bots were spamming it with requests into the next millennium - all distributed across a range of ip addresses so that the rate limiting WAF rule wouldn't be triggered. All that traffic for an empty JSON file 🤦

Sainsbury's website has been gradually degrading over the past few months to the point now where it's unusable. Basket contents disappear and reappear and it confused the order I was amending with another one that I had to checkout twice - eventually had to cancel the order completely 🤯

I ordered a iPhone 17e upgrade from EE and supposedly there's a problem with the order and it's directed me to a chat on ee-livechat.sprinklr.com with the person asking for a OTP sent to my phone - to which my response was "no way am I sending that to you"

GDS weighs in on the NHS's decision to retreat from Open Source
Within the UK's Civil Service you occasionally hear the expression "being invited to a meeting without biscuits". It implies a rather frosty discussion without any of the polite niceties of a normal meeting. In general though, even when people have severe disagreements, it is rare for tempers to fray. It is even rarer for those internal disagreements to spill over into public. Which is what…

One easy trick to prevent yourself having your social media account compromised - don't have friends who would DM you about voting them onto a podcast. (Alternatively, if you really must have such friends make sure you have 2FA enabled)

Doing a rewatch of Stargate SG-1 and in an episode where the team travel back in time to 1969 a hippie make a reference about crossing the border into Canada to avoid the (Vietnam) war and Teal'c goes "What war? The war with Canada?" - which hits very different in 2026 than it did in 1999. 😅
