Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 09/07/2026Things I thought before I had children: - I will only buy one pram/buggy - I will not cut crusts off bread - #rstats is better than Python Only one of these beliefs I still hold 🤓 3334
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 28/06/2026This works really well and is exactly how I make most of my bar plots look anyway so I’ve gone from my own custom function to ggauto and haven’t looked back 👍🏻 0111

The capacity and expertise to use it is the missing piece. That's the gap we want to help close, learn more and apply for our Pro bono support: www.jumpingrivers.com/pro-bono/ 072

Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 24/04/2026I’d like to call for more vim one-liners, e.g. this is and old one but: “it’s easier for the UK to exit the European Union than it is to exit vim.” I feel like this pattern could bring me similar joy as Chuck Norris jokes did ❤️ 110
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 24/04/2026Seconded! ggauto - a new #rstats package - works really well 🥳 040
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 17/04/2026As someone who already has 5 IDEs on their computer, this sounds like a string contender for 6th. #idepolygamy #rstats #pydata 130

Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 08/04/2026It really helped that it recognised RMarkdown chunks so transition was extremely smooth. 000

Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 24/03/2026Recommendations for a tidy #rstats package that creates dummy data from a data dictionary? Thank you! 100
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 20/02/2026It's a never ending lesson in humility. Just when I think I've got it...I don't. 100
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 20/02/2026I think by visualise you mean something fancier than a flowchart? Anyway I need to mention that library(consort) works well if it is a flowchart that you need. 140
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 21/01/2026Aha! This is why it had stopped working for me. Or rather was just stuck on "thinking" forever. Now logged out and back in again and working again. Thanks very much for sharing and the video! 020
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 10/01/2026I was really keen to use IntelliJ IDEA for Python as it looks good and I had a licence anyway (DataGrip is awesome). But the PyCharm data explorer is just shocking. So I kept using Positron to view data, then stubbornly writing code in IntelliJ. Eventually came to my senses and now only use Positron 040
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 27/12/2025Nope, any number of loops spared is a win 🙌🏻 I'm working on Day 10 and have somehow put four maps inside two nested for loops 🤪 sorry not sorry 010
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 27/12/2025I'm revisiting Part II of this one and looking for ideas. Only just saw that you put for loops inside mutate?!? Revolutionary. 110
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 18/12/2025#AdventOfCode Day 09 both parts #rstats I used plotly to guide my search. Sue me 🙃 050
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 14/12/2025#AdventOfCode Day 08 - both parts using igraph! #rstats igraph is superspeedy. pivot_wider() is slow, which to be fair creates 1k columns so that I can get the pairings. Will be a better way, but I was keen to get to igraph asap. First for loop this year 😀 (but I failed Day 03 and skipped Day 04). 160
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 10/12/2025My original solution now solves Part II for Test data 😅 1.25 stars in total I award myself for Day 07 🤩 000
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 10/12/2025Fixed it!!! With just distances() instead of all simple paths. I tried this earlier too only for the splitters in the last low. Running it on all splitters was the trick 😅 Now on to Part II, which surely requires all paths and therefore can’t be done with my love of graphs? #rstats 110
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 10/12/2025No I don’t need every single path, but all_shortest_paths() to final row isn’t sufficient as there are some paths to splitters that aren’t shortest. Although maybe if checked shortest paths to all splitters that would work 🤔 000
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 09/12/2025Here for all the tips! (I don’t check Bluesky until I’ve had a good go on my own so by the time I’m here I’m happy to see and hear everything 👀) 010
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 09/12/2025Thank you! Might rewrite it with a matrix if have time but thing is I love igraph so much that if anything smells even remotely graphy that’s what I’ll do. It does work for shortest paths, just that some of the splits are not the shortest possible way for a ray to get down so need all simple paths. 110
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 09/12/2025Ah good shout and I have used memoise happily in the past. Not sure it would work with my solution here as it’s a single igraph function call that gives me all the answers at once. 010
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 09/12/2025#AdventOfCode Day 07 Part I & Test data only Can I please get 0.25 ⭐ for solving it for the test input, but running out of memory for the real input 😅 9693
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 07/12/2025Wow really well done. So succinct. Rotating crossed my mind but decided to go with the devil I know. But would have been much more elegant to rotate as I can see from your solution. 100
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 06/12/2025I only use fwf for AoC. And I've only ever used it with equal width splits in the past - so with the help of rep(). First time benefitting from the fact that splits can be different width and feeling like a superhero 🤩 020
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 06/12/2025I agree lovely one today. I solved without loops. Have a look at my post. 000
Riinu Pius @pius.cloud · 06/12/2025#AdventOfCode Day 06 - both parts 🥳💃 Knew I wanted to do today's in #rstats instead of #pydata as soon as I saw it. Nice wrangling. Some duplication in code, but don't have time to reduce. Pun intended. 170
