one of the things that gets me about how awful life is right now is that price increases aren't gradual any more, they don't happen over time like they used to. i brought a set of 3 notebooks for £9.60 on april 27th, which is less than 4 months ago. the exact same set is now £16.

i do genuinely recommend it, sometimes the act of scrolling + mild audio / visual stimulation is enough without really paying attention. things like audio books / music are way beyond my capacity most days, but this works—just gotta dodge the ragebait-y content as much as you can.

my degree sits in some shitty plastic folder tucked away with bills and i never pursued a job in that field. i worked so hard to make it through that degree and i wish it came with the sense of accomplishment it does for others. i think a lot about the fact that nobody came to my graduation.

maybe as a simple task: learn what diagnostic beeps are. you don't have to memorise the meanings, just find your motherboard manufacture and familiarise yourself with their page about it. depending on the machine, they may have diagnostic lights and other POST codes too.

even just start with your browser and slap the ublock origin extension on. refuse any and all cookies you can, and if you can't decline them, question whether you need to use /that/ specific webpage. backup all your files on another device, save torrents of even the things you buy.

it is so so so important to learn how your tech works, how to optimise it. computers are so customisable, you can wipe the entire OS and put what you want on. you can gut windows to remove all the bloatware. you have control over your tech, you don't have to live at the whims of corporations.
