Finally have signed copies of my books again. Excuse my basic, free Square site, but it does the job without added expenses (and lets readers bypass Amazon): jensully.square.site

Kroger used to own Turkey Hill in Pennsylvania. First job I ever had that showed anti-union videos. I quit after 3 days.

The people who can afford to miss a day aren't likely to be against forcing the working class to work holidays. I sure as hell can't afford to miss a day of work as a protest. Unless we don't want to eat or have a roof over our heads. Hell, I have to go to work on days when I can barely walk.

I still keep track of how many days since the January 6th insurrection; I just have had too much going on to keep posting, mainly depression. It's justifiable: my dog passed in June, one of our cats is sick, my job sucks, our apartment sucks, & trump is making it hard to finish my master's degree.

Nah, this is far too logical for them to understand. And it lessens the control companies have over employees -- if employees don't need company-sponsored health insurance, then they wouldn't work for terrible employers. Plus is lessens overall control of women, and they don't like that.

All vaccines hit me hard. I have inflammation after a battle with Lyme disease and then developed Hashimoto's disease during menopause (genetic). I get my COVID boosters and just plan to rest for 36 hours. COVID was still terrible for me, but I think it would maybe kill me if I wasn't vaccinated.

It definitely was at my store. And another store where I briefly worked. And it's a problem at my current store.

Admiral Janneke @pirateophelia.com · 16/08/2026
You do you, but I'm not resorting to criminal activity in an attempt to prove a point. And when most people who bitch about this still willingly shop at Walmart and Amazon, it's all a moot point anyway.

Way to post an intelligent response... Also great way to prove that you have never worked in a store with high theft.
000
Admiral Janneke @pirateophelia.com · 16/08/2026
Oh you have managed a store and dealt with it? I did, and customer theft hurt us in lost hours and fewer wages. It wasn't the employees stealing expensive items. But we were the ones held accountable for the theft, even though we didn't have the hours to serve as guards for high theft areas.

Admiral Janneke @pirateophelia.com · 16/08/2026
They see it as stealing from a major corporation, but that loss comes out of that store and affects raises. Corporate doesn't care. They blame the employees because they should have done more to stop it, even though they already are overworked and underpaid. I speak from experience.

Admiral Janneke @pirateophelia.com · 16/08/2026
That's not okay. All that does is affect the people working in the store who make peanuts. An increase in theft means more responsibility for the employees, lectures from upper management, and the loss of employee appreciation. And if it gets too bad, the company might close the location entirely.

This is why companies like Kohl's have digital price signs. When I managed a Joann store, we had weekly price changes. Interesting that hand soap increased 50 cents when COVID entered the US. But this has been going on in retail for far longer than that.

Valid point. And I know some people struggle to find strength in anger. Me? I'm pissed...and it gives me strength and energy. I just learned I can't finish my master's because of the OBBBA, and I am livid. It's just the cherry on top of a pile of rage. We need to vote those mutherfuckers out!!
010
Admiral Janneke @pirateophelia.com · 12/08/2026
But it's this kind of optimism that got us into trouble: some assumed that Dems would win because of polling, so they didn't vote and Dems lost. We need to stay mad. We need that to push out the rich old guys who want us to suffer. Not to be the anti-Yoda, but find strength in your anger.

But you also have to remember that it's isn't all about youths. People of all ages need help. I'm 48 and just lost funding to finish my Master's degree. My mom is 72 and is struggling to pay for her life-saving medications. It's not all about young people. The rest of us vote too.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of Warren, but she does have some good ideas. But yes, we need change. Real change. And we need Democrats who will argue and defend rather than avoid or be passive aggressive while allowing the GOP to strip away our rights. I hope I see it in my lifetime.

The cross has nothing to do with being an American. That's your religion, not your patriotism. Many of us are not Christian, and that's our 1st Amendment right.

I said it's an attempt. I didn't say it would work. That's marketing for you: sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. But it grabbed your attention and you are commenting on her post, so it did work in a way. Sometimes good things come from criticism, and I think Warren knows that.

"Oo oo oo... Let me pull data out of my ass and use it to prove that a man who knows more than me is a liar." To this idiot woman: I'm gonna need the exact DOI of the journal article you referenced. I'm guessing she doesn't have it because she likely pulled the 82% from a blog that was wrong.

I think it's an attempt to connect with people who will latch on to the Spider-Man conversation. It grabs your attention because it's not the standard political post. Yes, it's a little weird, but that's how marketing works, and the older Dems really need some way to connect with younger voters.

Spot on. My brother and his girlfriend live in FL and had to move after companies bought up all the properties around them and used them as expensive Airbnbs, thereby causing their rent to skyrocket. They had to move to the other side of the state to find affordable housing.

I had a Border Collie/Labrador mix and small dogs try to attack her a few times in our neighborhood. Thankfully she always trusted me to handle it and didn't bite back. Small dog owners also need to keep their dogs on leashes!!

School lunch varies by state. Pennsylvania has a limited free lunch program based on income. And public schools now offer free breakfast thanks to Gov. Shapiro. But I totally agree with your point. Those are the things that keep us behind other countries!!

I can't afford a CPAP or medication for sleep apnea. I guess my health insurance thinks it's better for me to just die in my sleep. Weirdly, they 100% cover my thyroid med when my previous insurance wouldn't pay a cent. That's actually part of why I switched. Plus the 4000% increase in premiums.

But that's what rich people do: they waste money on stupid shit because they don't have anything else to spend it on.
