By using a Mushroom at an unfortunate angle in 200cc mode on the GBA Mario Circuit track in Mario Kart 8/Deluxe, it is possible to land in one of the tires decorating the course. The tire is inescapable, forcing the player to lose the race.

At the Game Developers Conference 2012, Super Mario 3D Land director Koichi Hayashida revealed a concept for "Long Mario" that he found "scary" and suggested that it should be used in a Luigi's Mansion game instead.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, there exists an immensely rare, extremely unfortunate scenario where Luigi dies in a stampede during the Hooktail battle and Mario spends the rest of the battle standing on Luigi's dead body.

After Hooktail attacks the audience in her boss battle in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door,
one or two audience members will be trampled in the stampede of the audience leaving.
These characters will remain lying on the ground, seemingly dead, for the remainder of the battle.
Goombella is standing
on two dead Goombas.
From the regular camera's point of view, these are very difficult to see due to being covered up by the seats.
Since there is a very small chance that Luigi is present in the audience, and an even smaller chance that
he will be the one trampled, there exists an immensely rare unfortunate scenario where Mario and his partner
will be standing on a dead Luigi for the remainder of the battle. Luigi does not recover from this.

In the prototype version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Inklings were known simply as "Girl" and "Boy". This was likely changed in the release version for the benefit of players unfamiliar with Splatoon, who could have believed these are simply particularly strange human children.

In Mario Party 9, Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi all have the same skeleton structure (identical bones merely arranged at different distances), which means they are able to load each other's animations. Of course, as this was never intended, they appear severely deformed.

In the Wii series games, Wuhu Island is committed to clean air by only allowing electric vehicles. However, in Mario Kart 7, gas vehicles are used in the races. This implies that Mario made a deal with the Wuhu Island administration to receive exclusive pollution privileges.

Pilotwings Resort states that guests are only
allowed to drive electric vehicles on Wuhu Island.
Earlier in the series, in Wii Sports Resort, this was
phrased as "only electric vehicles are allowed
on the island".
However, in Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart races
take place on the island where the racers all
use gas vehicles. This suggests that Mario
gained special pollution privileges for
his Mario Kart activities.

Normally, an enemy that falls in a pit in Super Mario World will not respawn unless Mario leaves and returns. However, by positioning the camera a specific distance away from its spawn point, Mario can trap the enemy in an eternal cycle of death and rebirth.

Launch day copies of Super Mario 64 DS contain glitches that were fixed in later production runs. One of them is the Yoshi Squish Crash, caused by eating a Boo in water. The next time Yoshi attempts to lick, he will squish humorously, and the game will crash.

Diddy Kong Racing contains a variety of anti-piracy measures. If the game detects that a certain address in memory was tampered with, it will randomize the sound frequency on every frame, making the game sound extremely grating and cacophonous.

#RWArtMonth 2025 Day 3: Pole Plants - When I first played Rain World, I quickly learned that not every pole should be climbed.

A digital painting of a slugcat, specifically the rather rotund Gourmand from the video game Rain World, being caught by two pole plants. The pole plants are thin, twisting, long, and spikey and are fighting over the slugcat, which has become their prey.
