did i just put PinkSea-tan in my engineering diploma thesis? yeah

My first time properly contributing to an open source project wooo!! PinkSea is an oekaki board that you log into with your Bluesky/AtProto account. You post the drawings you made and people can reply to it with more drawings! Go have a look on pinksea.art and have fun 😊

hi hi! the newest PinkSea update is here!!! there's a lot that's changed, but let's begin with the most important! as has been teased for weeks now, customizable profiles are here! you can now set a nickname, bio and an avatar you've drawn right inside of PinkSea! how cool is that?

long time no see, huh? with university out of my way for the next 3 months, i've finished the update that i've been working on a couple of months ago :) we finally have a simple, but much more complete search system! it's going to be extended in the future, but the days of finding tags are gone!

i am once again asking for help with PinkSea in the same vein as the "Post is gone" image, if any of you would want to contribute your art to PinkSea (with due credit, attribution, etc), I'd love a cute artwork to put up for when an account doesn't exist, is banned, etc.

thank you so much to @innerspiral.lol for mentioning us in her latest blogpost!!!! (which is really good btw you should absolutely read it)

One service on top of the service I use the most (Bluesky) is PinkSea. And everyone, PinkSea honestly feels like magic. It’s this little pocket of the internet that actually gets this shit, it’s not about chasing clout or grinding for views, it’s just pure creation for the sake of it. PinkSea is basically this beautiful little online oekaki board built on top of the AT Protocol, and it feels like a time machine in the best damned way. You log in with your Bluesky account (or anything that's on the AT Protocol), and instead of uploading some art you've already made, you have to draw it right there, in the moment, using a built-in simple canvas. Just pure, in-browser drawing like the old internet used to have. But what makes PinkSea special isn’t just the tech, but also it’s energy. It brings back that raw, fleeting feeling of creating something just because you wanted to, and not because you needed likes or attention. Every piece feels a handcrafted, and a little vulnerable, and it is! And that’s what makes it so fucking real. It’s so rare to find a space like that now, where you’re not performing, but you’re just making. PinkSea feels less like a little hub, and more like a tiny, little world where art still belongs to the artist.

thank you so so very much to @chaykak.bsky.social for mentioning us in his latest article!!! it's absolutely insane to see us there www.newyorker.com/magazine/202... it's also incredibly good, you should absolutely read it!! (and thank you to @jay.bsky.team for the kind words <3)

My favorite project besides Bluesky is a tiny site called PinkSea, a version of Japanese oekaki, bulletin boards for sharing digital drawings. I can log on to PinkSea using my Bluesky account information and post what I draw on both platforms simultaneously. In the Bluesky office, I pulled up PinkSea on Graber’s laptop, and she said that she had never seen it before. It is not a digital town square; with perhaps a few hundred active users, it’s barely even a digital dive bar. But its existence suggests the possibility of other creative projects on the protocol to come. Graber scrolled through the feed, which showcased both sophisticated anime figures and crude doodles, and her eyes lit up. “What excites me is new worlds emerging that I can’t imagine,” she said.

thank you for the shoutout <3

Protocol

PinkSea is now running its own CDN. A true decentralised network means that all the components of the network are decentralised. Some components such as Relays haven gotten the most attention in conversations about decentralisation. CDNs are much less discussed, and virtually all content depends on the CDN of Bluesky. PinkSea is an ATProto platform for drawing and sharing images, and the platform now runs their own CDN that is independent of Bluesky. As far as I know this is the first ATProto platform that has their own CDN, marking another small step towards the network becoming more decentralised.
