Barn carts in need of a new home. Before we lost our sister we also lost our uncle who was caring for a colony of outdoor cats. I’ve been working with Cat Coalition of the New South, Inc. to feed, vet, fix, & rehome these sweet babies. If you know of a barn in need of some mousers comment or DM.

Saturday May 2nd, my sister Jodi Black @pegjodi.bsky.social lost her battle with IPF and become an organ donor, per her wishes. I didn’t know that her March hospital visit was going to be the last hug I’d have with her. Her memorial service is this Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran in Hickory, NC

A week or so ago we got a winter storm leaving what many call snowcrete, layers of snow and sleet forming a firm 2” icy layer. For many days I could walk on it without sinking in, but it had grit to not be slippery. This was Willow’s reaction to it.

I ordered some cards from Corey Johnston @coreyartusimagery.com that came in the mail today and they are as stunning as I expected. I can’t wait to send them to folks I love, after I’ve admired each one myself. www.coreyartusimagery.com/greetingcard...
Four packs of six cards each in an Art Nouveau style made by artist Corey Johnston, with a bonus notepad of a teacup design. Two of the individual cards, Rose Path and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves with my fresh bouquet of pink roses in the background. The designs look raised, but are not embossed, just a talented artist who can pull off that effect with their work.

Beautiful way to put it. For those who need to see this: Hold on. Reach out for help, don’t rob yourself of the beauty and opportunities to come. It does get better. The world is better off with you in it.

It doesn’t say explicitly in the app but I wonder if it starts off small in clumps in the Spring and goes to these leggy strings in the Fall?

My father-in-law was also a POW from WWII from the Battle of the Bulge. He was a very quiet and gentle man when I knew him, but sadly for his fighting and starving in a camp, half his sons are on the right side history, but the other half are choosing poorly.

Poor Willow had a rough day yesterday, aggravating her neck injury from July, with a trip to the ER Vet for assessment and more meds. She’s resting well today, moving better, no more whining or yelps of pain, and a little less shrimped up around her neck with muscle relaxers.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a movie in the theater either, definitely before 2020, but even then, also having anxiety hound means if I’m away from her it must be for an errand. 😔 Maleficent 2? Happily she’s drugged and resting now.

To get a Flu & Covid shot this Fall, you will want to check eligibility per new FDA policy. In 13 locations, some being VA, DC, WV, PA, NC, etc. you need a Rx from your doctor to get the COVID shot at a large pharmacy chains, even if you do meet the new guidelines. open.substack.com/pub/lilscien...

Lastly to keep myself safe for pack out, I had to wear a mask to protect my respiratory system from the dust since there had been no rain, a jacket with full sleeves, & a hat to protect me from the sun b/c I am still on doxy for the sinus infection, which was all really hot. Willow on her way home.
Wearing a broad brimmed sun hat to protect me from the sun all the time, a jacket with sleeves to protect me arms from burning, and a mask to protect me from all the dust of packing and the dust of the road and vehicles going by. I also did sinus rinses every day there to try and help my poor system. Willow on her way home from camp, she’s doing much better and had a good time but was tired and ready to go home.

Once back at Pennsic I spent most of my time MoLing 3 tournaments, hanging out in our comfortable camp, & resting as able. I got to court on Wed, did a little shopping on Thurs night, but I only really got Tues night, Wed, Thurs, and then we did some slow packing on Friday and pack out on Sat.
Vair and Ermine camp from the road, older camp sign, and heraldry for (l-r) me fluer de lys and a rose, Alan’s hawks, Geoffrey Gamble’s comet, Grace Gamble’s purple, and Nicolosa’s dancing butterflies. Vair and Ermine camp from the road, heraldry (l-r) Colin and Stanci’s quartered grenades and cross, Geoffrey ap Clywd’s ship and swords, Giacomo’s Italian daggers, and Eleanor’s garb of wheat. Gate with Latin “Non Via Austen Iter” meaning “Not a Road, But a Way” of life. And a view into our common tent and the older Vair and Ermine sign. Of course by then a sinus infection I had been nursing for a while came info full bloom so while I was home with Willow I called my nurse and got seen for my own crud & then extended my stay at home for my own health. Instead of heading back on Saturday morning I didn’t go back until Tues morning.

But then I went back home b/c Willow had been experiencing neck problems for a few weeks and while rest and meds had helped, I knew acupuncture would help more, but the first available appt was during Pennsic. So I came back home, got her from camp, took her to her appt, and let her rest at home.

We had to go for set up because our trucks and trailers haul the camp stuff in addition to our own personal stuff. Packing and set up weekend was brutally hot and humid, but we got there and set up eventually. Camp Vair and Ermine on Battle Rd.

Willow has been dealing with some stuff. The thunderstorms lately have been heckin a lot, sometimes getting her Thundershirt deployed. But she also has some neck pain, likely a bulging disc, that’s making her uncomfortable & we’ve been trying to find the right course of meds & rest. Poor baby. 😢

Before, After, the difference. Since the late 90’s I’ve been cutting off my hair every ~4 years to donate, and my last donation was in the Fall of 2020. It’s a relief to not have the burden of so much hair, and I have an 18” braid to donate.
