Tangerine Dream for me.

Wow, loads there. Amon Düül II would probably be 1st choice, but Zappa, Stevie Wonder, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and a very early Dr Feelgood would all be very tempting.

The one with MC5 looks like fun! I’d not envy bands going on after them! How do you follow the MC5?!

A really good album IMO. The last of the amazing run of albums on RCA and it book-ends that period nicely.

LOL “Amon Dull II”?! Amon Düül II would be my choice for sure.

Tough call, 71 would have been a peak time to see (non Syd) Floyd, Sabbath, Santana and Yes. Any of those four really.

That is such a great album!

Durutti Column & Section 25 (I saw both that year), or Misty In Roots for me.

#vinyl 2026 LP17 & 18 #electronica #jazz Eartheater Heavenly Body: If I’m The Bottle You’re The Message, and Ezra Collective Here Because of Hope. The former a quite remarkable album about childbirth, the latter a wonderfully funky Afrobeat, reggae and jazz fusion. Both highly recommended.
Eartheater Bleep’s clear exclusive, Ezra the translucent white with signed insert. There will still be some out there I guess if you are fast.

Rendell/Carr Quintet, Ben Webster, or The Who for me.

Just three here; White Album, Hendrix, S&G. PS I’ve also got the Rutherford Chang ‘We Buy White Albums’ White Album, which is the sonic result of layering 100 knackered copies, sounds very Stockhausen!

Tough choice between Spontaneous Music Ensemble, The Jam, XTC and The Police. All would have been good at that time. As would Barbara Thompson‘s Paraphernalia. Role a dice… I’d take any.

My Bloody Valentine in London for me. Stump would be a good shout, as would Misty & Roots. PS Very much my era; starting to see bands I knew personally from Liverpool on the billings (HMHB, Gone To Earth, Crikey It’s The Cromptons etc). Saw all those countless times!

I love the way The Fall changed so much over the years, but only ever into The Fall regardless of the line-up. I saw them a fair few times over the years, roughly Slates, This Nation’s Saving Grace, Code: Selfish and sometime later around Y2K, so a reasonable spread, but not right at the end.

I suspect The Fall would beat them on that score!

Wow, some amazing nights/billings there; my picks would be Teardrop Explodes, The Fall, Josef K, & Fire Engines, and the B52’s supported by Au Pairs. Then there’s The Cure and Japan! All at their absolute peak!

Tony L @pinkfishmedia.net · 29/08/2026
2 here! Never got to see either band, which was a mistake. Both excellent albums, arguably each band’s peak.

Cecil Taylor with Joan Armatrading is such an unlikely billing I’d have to pick that one!

#cassette #electronica Some rather wonderful electronica/ambient/found-sound stuff from Dogs Versus Shadows on Strategic Tape Reserve. Comes with some 16mm film clippings! Cassette works well for this genre, it adds something of its own that enhances somehow. Available on Bandcamp (see alt txt).
Dogs Versus Shadows 16mm cassette and packaging which includes four strips of 16mm film. Tape playing in background on a restored vintage Nakamichi LX-3. The cassette has a bright orange shell, but that is barely visible as its in the Nak.

Tape here: https://strategictapereserve.bandcamp.com/album/16mm

I’d certainly pay 60p to see T. Rex on peak form in 1972. Curtis Mayfield for 75p isn’t a bad deal either!

A superb album! One of their best IMO. I saw them on this tour, amazing gig. Amazed there are only five Sonic Youth albums in the book. Hope there are at least twelve Fall albums!

2, Hot Buttered Soul & In A Silent Way. It amazes me how many ‘best of/greatest hits’ albums are always in these charts. I never bought them at all! I’ve got a couple of small self-released/DIY punk/new-wave comps etc, but that’s it.

#vinyl 2026 LP15 & 16 Durutti Column Renascent & Younger Brother Weapon Of Mass Distraction. Two great new albums from older artists and who can argue with a free Durutti Column tote bag from Piccadilly Records! First spin now, a beautiful album. The YB is excellent too, that one landed yesterday.
Durutti Column and Younger Brother albums on vinyl, the DC is the clear green vinyl limited edition with grey sleeve with stapled-in booklet, the YB a double in a rather nice foil-blocked sleeve. Another Bluesky post where I have used every available letter without saying everything!

15” Tannoy Monitor Golds in early-60s Lockwood studio monitor cabs. The cabs actually have a bit of interesting provenance; they were at Cine-Tele Sound and later Toe Rag Studios. I bought the cabs empty, they should really have earlier Tannoy Reds. On the ‘to do’ list!

In case the above is a bit too cryptic it is Aphex Twin Drukqs. A fascinating album that flits between complex polyrhythmic electronica one would expect, and almost John Cage prepared piano stuff. Really good and still fresh. Hasn’t aged at all. I played it all today. At the right speed too!

Tony L @pinkfishmedia.net · 28/07/2026
#vinyl #aphextwin #electronica For exactly 25 years now I’ve been trying to figure out where to keep this absurdly oversize box set! The odds of playing it all at the right speed is low given half is 33 and half is 45! Today it has been reissued, including a limited dumb box version like this!
Aphex Twin Drukqs, original ludicrously sized vinyl box towering over more normal sized box sets. A really interesting and abstract album that ventures well out into John Cage-like prepared piano stuff as well as the typically fractured polyrhythmic electronica one might expect from Richard James.
