Theresa the Turtle
2.
Hello, I am Theresa. I am a turtle and I have eyelashes. This is biologically preposterous! [drawing of river turtle with eyelashes]
3.
Reptiles don’t have eyelashes. Usually. Birds are dinosaurs and dinosaurs are reptiles. So the badass secretarybirds are reptiles with eyelashes. But I’m not a secretarybird.
[profile of secretarybird with “slaaaay queen!” Written near his face]
4.
However, I am a cartoon so I have eyelashes so that you know I am a girl. Gender is like that. Making us put eyelashes where they don’t belong.
[car with face with eyelashes on the eyes]
5.
I didn’t come with these eyelashes. Batteries not included. Girlhood sold separately.
[false eyelashes in a jewelry box with a price tag attached to it]
6.
It would have been so easy if I could just live in my imagination, where the lashes already were, but I see the same thing when I look in the mirror as when you look at me. Except I see that fucked up scute on the right side.
[two mirror images of turtle’s face]
7.
why am I like this? I don’t know but these synthetic lashes helped me finally feel normal and that’s what matters.

you may know, with sorrow, that Chomps' kind is doomed.
But it gets worse...
[drawing of the dinosaur's face with only eye drawn in]
Chomps knows
[drawing showing the dinosaur crying with a thought bubble showing an asteroid headed to Earth. There are skulls in the background]
but nothing can take away their joy. of a cool breeze. Or a delicious leaf.
Every moment is rebellion against the uncaring cosmos.
