Today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a procedural ruling: our coalition filed our latest elections lawsuit – to block President Trump’s illegal executive order threatening mail-in voting – too soon. But this is just a temporary setback. #orpol
“The right to vote is sacred, and Oregonians know that voting by mail is safe, secure, and accurate. We’re not going to let Donald Trump interfere in our elections—and we’re certainly not going to let him decide who gets a ballot and who doesn’t. Today’s court decision is a temporary setback, nothing more. This fight is far from over.”In a narrow ruling, the Supreme Court ruled that challenges to Trump’s most recent elections Executive Order were filed too early—but the Court did not block potential future legal challenges if USPS does officially take action to interfere with mail voting. AG Rayfield, who has a track record of challenging attempts to interfere with Oregon elections in court, vowed to remain vigilant and take immediate action if USPS unlawfully takes steps to interfere with mail voting.Today’s decision by the Supreme Court is a temporary setback. USPS just issued new rules implementing the President’s illegal Executive Order on Friday, but the rules have not yet been published in the Federal Register. Should USPS unlawfully attempt to interfere with Oregon’s vote-by-mail process, AG Rayfield will immediately take action to stop that threat. We will continue defending Oregon’s election system against unlawful federal interference.

BIG NEWS: We just filed a new lawsuit to protect Oregonians’ personal information. The Trump administration is trying to build its own database with the personal information of commercial drivers without limits. Read more: ow.ly/gUTq50ZzzZk
AG Rayfield sues to protect Oregonians’ personal dataWe sued the Trump administration for demanding a database containing the personal information of 17 million commercial drivers – and threatening to cut off more than $10 million in federal funding if the agency that manages the database doesn't hand it over. The states say the federal government is breaking privacy laws by quietly building its own copy of a database with drivers’ personal data - without telling the public, or putting limits on how the information could be used or shared.
“This is about whether millions of working Oregonians and Americans can trust that their most sensitive information won’t be misused. When you get a commercial driver’s license, you trust the state to keep your Social Security number and personal information safe – no one expected the federal government to demand that states hand over information like this in bulk, and for who knows what purpose.”

The Social Security payroll tax is capped at $184,500 in income. So if you're a nurse or construction worker, you pay Social Security on 100% of your income. But if you're a lawyer raking in millions, you only pay Social Security on a tiny fraction of your income. That is not right.
