Interesting how crap medical advice on social media often includes, "doctors won't tell you this" or "doctors don't want you to know this". I for one am glad they won't and don't.

As a Londoner, I love this from Steve Tolz: “I think how over the years we’ve sat in bars long enough for them to gentrify around us.”

Yes. And this may bother the banners, too.:Ma Joad, “If you're in trouble or hurt or need, go to poor people. They're the only ones that'll help –the only ones.”

'Creative’ isn’t an adjective we should apply to ourselves – in the same way that we wouldn’t say, ‘I’m beautiful’. Saying ‘I’m creative’ can contain a pejorative hint of ‘unlike others’. Believing/knowing oneself to be creative is, of course, fine. However, best left to others to say so?

From the archive for William Trevor, #BornOnThisDay in 1928, thoughts on NIGHTS AT THE ALEXANDRA, a poignant collection of short fiction. There is such sadness, loneliness & yearning here. Beautiful, bittersweet stories, exquisitely told. #BookSky 💙📚 #BOTD jacquiwine.wordpress.com/2023/03/28/n...

Advice I wish I'd had earlier: "Get author photos done before you write the novel as you'll be much older when it's finished."

Archetype, Off-the-Peg or Thundering Cliché?
When is a character, a phrase or a situation a stereotype, and when is it a trope? And what should you do about it all?

Most writers need encouragement. However, this comment from a scriptwriter in Dennis Palumbo's 'Writing From The Inside Out' put a bit of a brake on my natural tendency to seek it! "In Hollywood you can die of encouragement." #Writing

Neil Young's music, more than any other, has tracked my, and my family's life - and still does. In a reorganising fit, I totted up the albums – about 40 – of which a third duplicate my vinyl versions. Guess I'm a fan. #NeilYoung

This principle should run through journalism like the words in a stick of rock. Yet somehow, day after day, it seems to evade the BBC's finest minds.
“If someone says it’s raining and another person says it’s dry, it’s not your job to quote them both. Your job is to look out the fucking window and find out which is true.”

As a kid I was an avid bus spotter (my secret shame). This photo of a bus I often used reminded me of the time in the King's Road when a woman about to get on asked, 'Is this bus going to the World's End?' The conductor replied, 'Yes darlin', and beyond, but don't worry, I'll hold your hand.'
