As I've got momentum building up in the shop, I decided this work deserves the official label of "Fuck Big Tech" collection. #2 in the series is titled "Sovereign Cloud". Worked on it during the weekend, it went up in my daughter's bedroom last night. She promised she'll tidy up her desk next

I've recently learned of a company that has what I called Schrödinger's meetings. People do not accept or reject meeting invites, and you'll only figure out who attends when the meeting starts. And of course all of the company's attention is going into pushing AI adoption to improve productivity.

Paris, September 15, 2026 – TotalEnergies and Mistral announce a 3-year joint program representing an investment of more than €100 million aimed at developing a new generation of frontier AI models to support TotalEnergies' geosciences experts in the exploration, characterization and development of oil and gas reservoirs.

Driving Innovation by Combining AI, Geoscience Expertise and Subsurface Data

This partnership will draw on the latest advances in artificial intelligence, particularly agentic AI, to combine next to 10 petaflops of data with nearly a century of knowledge, know-how and expertise accumulated by TotalEnergies in geosciences and reservoir engineering. The objective is to develop new frontier models, able to integrate, process and interpret large volumes of data in order to generate multiple scenarios for the development of exploration opportunities, as well as for optimizing and extending the life of existing projects.

TotalEnergies and Mistral will establish a joint scientific laboratory combining the subsurface know-how and expertise of TotalEnergies' subsurface teams with the scientific and technological capabilities of Mistral, a European AI champion, to develop solutions tailored to the specific needs of the Company's businesses.

One of the best things of summer is being mostly offline. Another one is reading tons of books! Here's the review of the books I read in July and August, including a couple from @doctorow.pluralistic.net and the great one by Sarah Winn-Williams. makemeacto.cc/books-i-read... #booksky

Back from a long break with a long list of summer reads. Two highlights, one of which comes with some caveats. Also, a great biography, more vibe writing and a bunch of sci-fi reading because why not?

"AGI has been achieved" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If enough media and people believe the statement, it's an indicator that human intelligence has declined to the point that it's actually *below* what advanced LLMs can "display". "achieved" by lowering the threshold and making people dumber.

Modern Dependency Problems (with apologies and thanks to XKCD) Probably needs more arrows, tbh
The classic XKCD dependency stack cartoon, but relabeled. The image shows a huge pile of boxes representing "all modern digital infrastructure" precariously balanced atop each other. A label at the right (ha!) says "A project led by a guy who then turns out to be a fascist" and arrows point from that to boxes all over the diagram.
