How can we predict ecosystems that don't exist yet? Our new paper led by @westobymark.bsky.social in @ausjbotany.bsky.social uses state-and-transition models to explore how ecosystems could change by 2100 under warming, rising CO₂, altered fire regimes, reduced livestock and new gene technologies.

Scenarios for ecosystems in the year 2100
By the year 2100, Australian ecosystems may experience changes including livestock grazing replaced by cell culture milk and meat, new genetic technologies

A systems modelling approach to predict biological responses to extreme heat
Anthropogenic climate change is leading to more frequent and extreme heat waves. These large-scale events are radically reshaping interactions among organisms—impacting biodiversity, community composi...

"The authors have gone to great lengths to address the concerns of the reviewers multiple times. If the reviewers would like to write a different paper, they are free to do so in future work." WELL SAID, Dr. journal editor, well said! 🙌

Evaluating the vulnerability of critical early life stages in plants during heat extremes
Abstract. Plants, their seeds and their gametes show remarkable resilience and responsiveness to environmental conditions. However, worsening climate chang

Proud of @biologyanu.bsky.social PhD student Tom Hanley's first paper. Huge effort in the field! @tern-aus.bsky.social AMRF infrastructure enabled us to simulate heatwaves while Tom followed the effect of the heat load on heat tolerance acclimation of photosystems over time doi.org/10.1111/jvs.70109

Effective heating chamber design to simulate acute heatwaves and night‐time warming for ecological communities under natural field conditions
Heatwaves are increasing in intensity, duration and frequency. The impacts of such events can be extensive for natural ecosystems, but studying heatwaves in field conditions (in situ) remains chal...
