As with all retrospective awards of titles, it’s a meaningless gesture. They weren’t good enough to win it on the pitch and so I’d see it as a hollow honour. FWIW, I don’t think the commission will strip them of any titles, they’d be opening up a massive can of lawyer-shaped worms if they did.

Also, words cannot express how much I hate watching football at this ground. As you can see, every single spectator is miles away from the action, feels like I’m at a Serie A ground in the 1990’s. Convinced it’s only chosen so the suits have a nice executive box to watch the game from.

I visited Naples in June and was astounded at the level of reverence for Maradona all these years later. A mural, a statue, or a tacky souvenir was seemingly around every corner of the Spanish Quarter. The effect he had/has on the Neopolitan people cannot be understated.
