Mildly bemused engineer, also husband, father, railwayman. Definitely liberal and drifting leftward on a daily basis. He/Him

I would say with this, they are fine being petty horrifying fashy bastards if it means they get to be in charge or in the pipeline for a cushy job reward for services rendered later in their life. Basically they will step on all of us for some slightly better table scraps.

Either way it is a sign of a problem organisation but not necessarily in the way it is being portrayed

I do often wonder about how stuff like this happens when I know how many hands something has to go through in any decent sized organisation. I’d say either a group who are far to homogeneous or someone with too much clout who no-one thinks they can say no to.

Hacking is still a crime if you ask your computers to do it for you then pretend it was an accident by the computer. All of them should be in a cell.

Yeah, as I remember they tried to keep going but basically a hoard of the worst people were suddenly asking to get back on to have a pop at Deyton. I think when the Hamilton’s were wanting back they decided it was probably not going to work.

“I don’t know how you can live in that city, I’d be scared to get on a ferry since the Joker tried to blow them up”. “Yes but what you learn living here is the upshot of the Joker is he never does the same gag twice so I’m pretty confident he won’t blow up the ferry again”

Now I’m wondering if there are people who live in other cities who are more scared of Gotham because of sensationalist reporting (you know, like people who believe London is just wall to wall stabbings)

Now what would be fun is something that treats the weird stuff from super hero comics like something people just get used to. “Hi, I’m going to have to dial in to the meeting today, yeah Mr Freeze has encased most of downtown in ice so the busses are off”

Why do you live in Gotham? Well my job, house and support network are all there so relocating to a city with fewer flamboyant criminals is pretty unaffordable.

I’m not saying that there are tories who are in thrall to the plague god Nurgle off of warhammer but they love water full of shit and hate universal healthcare so the pattern fits.

I think they film it in Cumbernauld so there must have been some sort of bonus to compensate for having to spend time in Cumbernauld.

Oh, Michael Sheen not good enough to get his name before House of Games eh? Or is this the BBC letting him know that they can replace him in a heartbeat?
Shot of a TV programme guide noting that now that Michael Sheen has taken over Richard Osmands house of games is just called house of games

I remember reading that way back when hanging was a thing in Britain, if you survived the hanging (rope snapped for example) you were released as the execution had occurred and the fact that you didn't die wasn't relevant. Think they also took it as God had spared you.

I suppose the other side is Ian M Banks culture novels where technology is so magic all the horrible jobs are done by machines, although there will be whimsical people who clean sewers for fun because the culture seems full of that sort of person.

The exodus fleet is actually a pretty good look at a communal society if not necessarily Utopian. More culturally everyone pitching in.

Murray Christison @pieman70.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
The only place I remember this actually being considered was with the incredibly collective based exodus fleet in Becky Chambers’ Record of a Spaceborne Few and if I remember sewer duty was basically a massive rota, basically everyone has to do it at some point.

From the little I know of Buran it was actually an improvement on the shuttle in a lot of ways and energia was usable for a lot more things.

Murray Christison @pieman70.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Just looking at it now it is obvious but I never noticed it before. Apparently because NASA isn’t military a lot of the shuttle designs were publicly available so the soviets just photocopied them and sent them home in some of the easiest espionage ever conducted.

For a scenario Me: Alexa, tell me today’s weather forecast. My wife in the next room: Did you say something? Me (talking over weather): I was asking Alexa the weather. Wife: oh right, will it rain? Me: dunno, I missed it, I’ll check my phone.

Master force is such a weird transformers series, the pretenders actually made some sort of sense as opposed to “I have disguised myself as a vehicle sized human” and the power masters being people merging with a transforming vehicle was a fun, different take.

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

I mean has anyone tried this? Could we get some misfits and weirdos together, play some late 90s pop punk and mysteriously reform will implode and a more socially democratic system will magically appear?

Murray Christison @pieman70.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Still, my mid 40s arse still hankers for a time that never existed where getting a group of Misfits and weirdos together and playing one song will somehow solve all problems.

There is much more about kids with their whole life ahead of them and adults realising that they are not where they wanted to be than I’ve previously noticed. Or it is a non determined number of pints of Guinness and sleep deprivation (been up since 4am) that makes me see stuff that isn’t there.
