If I ever make a full recovery, I swear I'm channelling all this shit into writing a medical-horror novel.

I love a good list! Nine formative games I treasure, though not necessarily my nine favorites.

A box-art collage of nine games that were formative influences on me: Donkey Kong Country 2; Super Mario 64; Resident Evil 2; Banjo-Kazooie; Gran Turismo 4; Burnout Revenge; Rock Band 2; Mass Effect 2; Alan Wake.

Finally finished Code Veronica, phew. I'm shocked to find Chris's half of the game consistently better than Claire's: less aimless sprawl on Rockfort, a semblance of actual atmosphere in Antarctica. Ends on a bum note, though, with the needless mansion rehash and clumsy final boss.

Enduring the abysmal writing of Star Trek Discovery has been unpleasant in many ways, but a new low: seeing Section 31 recast from a warning to a masturbatory fantasy. Explicitly both-sidesing any moral concerns over "nation-building" is especially galling *less than a decade after the Iraq War*.

120

Pico @picoplume.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

I'm trying so hard to see the positives in Code Veronica, since it has its fans, but that midpoint Tyrant fight deserves every bit of its infamy. Awful way to cap a pedestrian first half. Music, setting, and atmosphere are massive downgrades, and the level structure is a chore.

Replayed the original RE3 for the first time in years. Remembered it being great, and it's somehow even better, to the point where I don't actually think there's much of a gap between it and the original version of RE2.

I have one chapter left to draft of a magical realism, road-trip furry novella that has absolutely nothing to do with religion. These past days have made finishing and publishing that story seem like the worst idea imaginable.

Amid the recent Campo Largo discourse, it has been disheartening to see how little its most vocal critics actually care about the vulnerable populations they claim to support. Inaccurate/simplistic analyses, lying about Toledo's actions, and blocking reasonable debate already made that clear.

I will be honest, and I know some people who were involved in this fiasco follow me so please listen: You are making the environment hostile for ALL furries who have experienced religious trauma, and are trying to navigate it. That includes *all* faiths but in this case, Mormons in particular.

this is the part that's getting me the most about people going after Toledo ngl. as soon as you push back or relay your own positive experiences with CL they immediately shut you out. almost like they don't want to have a real discussion and just wanna score Internet Points teeing off on someone

It's finally on my living room wall! I got this at the Anthrocon art show: an absolutely dazzling painting by @jaspersvault.art, whom I even got to briefly meet as the auction was closing.

An abstract geometric painting of a fox hangs on a wall.

One of many Anthrocon highlights: discovering @abiki.bsky.social's wonderful art in the den! The perfect introduction for a bird who's macro-curious but hasn't actually explored the genre that much...yet. (Naturally I did my civic duty and informed @ahab.bird.gay the instant I could.)

The cover of a comic named "Avians of Doom", depicting a giant penguin crushing a building under one foot and crushing a train in one hand.

RE9, first half: "this is absolutely sublime, up there with the best of the series" RE9, second half: 😒😒😒😒😒😒 Reminds me of Zero with its absolutely insane drop in quality after a very specific transition. Massive bummer.

Slightly unhinged reaction, but I actually got a little misty at the utter shock of this announcement. 😭 I never would've thought that my favorite, niche driving series would get another entry. That first one in particular was one of the most formative games I've ever played.

Two more Star Trek thoughts as I continue through the early 2000s: Nemesis wasn't very good at all, but I at least admire its willingness to shake up the franchise's visual style and tone. The Enterprise premiere was better than I expected, so I'm curious to see how the series develops!
