With a simple coil and an LED you cannot only detect the fields generated by NFC (Near-field communication), you can also rectify the signal to detect it in another phone's magnetometer with #phyphox.

Such a cool use of the #sensors in a smartphone (read out by the #phyphox app). By putting a smartphone on the back of a swimmer, and after careful integration of the acceleration data, the speed of the swimmer can be plotted, showing the different arm and leg movements, and body rotation. 🏊️ 📱 📈

Did I talk too much in the workshop? No, they are using the accelerometer in their phone and @phyphox.org to measure their heartbeat. Lying still with the phone on your chest gives very detailed data.

Il y a 2 jours j'étais au Cap Blanc-Nez (c'est très chouette !) Avec @phyphox.org et les coordonnées GPS, j'ai mesuré une altitude d'environ 170 m par rapport à l'ellipsoïde (WGS84) et un α = 0.52° en visant l'horizon Ce qui donne un rayon de la Terre de 170×cos 0.52/(1-cos 0.52) ≈ 4100 km

Did I collect accelerometer data using @phyphox.org riding the Washington Monument elevator today? Of course! The velocity (2.6 m/s) is a little faster than most elevators. Acceleration is lower than most. Max position of 153 m compares well with 500 ft height of observation level. #ITeachPhysics
