Even in Conservativeland, the track record for transphobia really sucks. If it worked for others, DeSantis would have ended up working his way to the VP pick or something. The power of this stuff is really limited. Also, there is a connection to age here: a lot of this is from old people.

They were only able to pull that off riding Trump 2024 coattails. Coatails which have now drank (drunk?) from the wrong grail. The Democratic Party is kind of leaderless right now, so , to a certain extent, it isn't suprising to see candiates throwing things against the wall to see what sticks.
