Anyone who thinks “pay to play” is a uniquely soccer problem needs to dig deeper. If it can happen to a sport with the culture, roots and infrastructure that soccer in this country can only dream of, it’s a much bigger issue.

It's 15 minutes to kick-off of the first MLS game in 2 months, the first since the start of this hugely successful World Cup. There is no pregame show. There is no scene-set that explains the first half of the season. There is nothing to welcome new viewers and connect the league to the past month.

Philly... like I said, that was an unserious offseason if the goal was to win a Cup of some sort. It wasn't, obviously: It was to flip players for a profit. Which is a totally fine thing to do, as long as you can avoid relegation. No points through three games but I think they'll stay up.
