iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I will be thinking about this as we continue to design systems enhanced by AI. How to get the best of the algorithm without over-optimising our humanity out of the mix.

I can't imagine the current crop of AI systems are tuned for this kindness and discretion. It's hardly the famous trolley problem and no-one was going to die but the small act of humanity made a big difference to my day.

I approached a junction as a bus was pulling out and they had the right of way. But despite this, he saw something in my struggle and waved me through. I made the train and saw my kids to bed.

A thought about humans, AI and kindness. Leaving work last night, I realised I could get a delayed train if I jogged down the hill and might make the kids bedtime. I had two bags, an umbrella and coat tossed over my arm. I was clearly struggling a bit but trying my best.

Google has announced the Pixel 10 range, which is the moment I've been waiting for to get a discounted retail 9 Pro. They're down to £650 on Google's site now 👍

Yesterday I felt bad after giving Halfords front line support a hard time, but then got through to someone who could actually do something. It was how it should have been in the first place and no more remorse felt.

Off to do 14k. Around Canary Wharf, to London bridge and back down to the Cutty Sark.

@davidhewitt.dev your talk last night has inspired me to bring my account here back to life. I've abandoned Twitter (sic) and thought there wasn't a good and friendly alternative. Maybe it was here all along! Great to chat briefly too, very eye opening.

New Zelda seems promising after ~1h last night. What sets it apart from other open world games is the sense that you are physically in the world, rather than an avatar wandering through a sim. The lines between character, interactive elements and world are invisible.

* tap tap * Is this thing on? First day back in the digital world after a week's blissful family holiday. Hope you've had a good one too.

Illuminating replies from @jay.bsky.social in this convo. Gives a good summary of where they are aiming with the AT protocol and federation model. The parallel to the early web is appealing to us geeks, but how will it work out for the normies? Does it need mass appeal to thrive?

“Content is public, like a blog” - worth remembering in these early days when it feels intimate that posts have a long half-life.
