YNAB. I’ve used it for years, and found it to be great. Highly recommend it. Have to spend a bit of time up front understanding the philosophy, but once you get it, it’s super helpful.

Slowly… regular work got in the way 😅 . Plus, interestingly/annoyingly, thinking more deeply about what I wanted to build caused me to reflect enough to improve usage of my current budgeting app. However, there are still gaps, so I’m observing to see if they are worthy of a dedicated tool.

It’s pretty mind-blowing that I can ask my little wrist supercomputer to close my garage door, and instead of someone having me committed… the door just closes. Then I can ramble at my glass-slab pocket supercomputer about that, and it writes it down, then sends it to a bunch of randos worldwide.

Zero reason to joke. That’s very noughty indeed.

Yeah I know people say anxiety is bad, but mine has just been collecting all the possible things that can go wrong so far. Once it has an exhaustive catalog of every possible mishap, it’ll move on to suggesting solutions and then you better watch out.

Started playing around with @tauri.app last night to build a little custom budgeting app. So of course I starting yak shaving, learning 2 new frontend frameworks, instead of just sticking to what I know and getting it done 🤦‍♂️ Though, learning is always fun, so still a win.

Reposting this thread for the late-night crew. I've started a new newsletter about the best way to fix the bad business that's happening with computers today. Here's the link, and the thread below is filled with highlights of the first few posts I've done.

Will Smith thinks today's computers are broken. They're designed to capture our attention instead of make our lives easier, and users are at a breaking point. Let's figure out what's next!

What problems to people have with current personal budgeting / financial management software? Any points of friction, etc? What would make life easier or the outcomes better?

My loan for a model 3 is up in June. Previously had considered new Y, but now looking at every other reasonably priced alternative in Aus. Thinking maybe a BYD Atto 3, to go with my Shark that arrives this week.

Cool Ranch is amazing… except when you get them in Australia, instead of the US. Found that one out the hard way. Here in Oz, Mexicana reigns. Subjectively speaking.

@scalzi.com, just started reading Old Man’s War last night. Only 15 pages in (look, I stated reading far too late at night, ok?!), but loving it so far. Can’t wait to dig in properly! Or, fall asleep reading it too late every night, progressing 2 paragraphs at a time. Still…
