Trump becomes only object on Earth exempt from Canadian urge to apologize
"Canadians will say they’re sorry, in that particular Canadian pronunciation, to literally anything, but they won’t say it to Donald Trump."

Oh no I just read the word "gift" with a soft 'g' (like gif) when reading to my 6 year old.

Stroll is truly a generational driver - no other has come even close to his record number of Q1 exits!

What does the LoVent do that just a manual Vent/Pump Down cycle (without shutting down the backing pump) doesn't or can't do?

I'm just reminded of those two winters when I see charts like this:
000
Philip Bulsink 🇨🇦 @philip.bulsink.ca · 22/09/2026
The last mega 𝘦𝘭 𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘰 in our area: multiple blizzards, days of freezing rain thunderstorms. 50+ cm of snow in 6 hours one day. The mega 𝘦𝘭 𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘰 before? *The* ice storm. 100 mm of freezing rain in a few days. Complete electric grid collapse.
People stand beside cars, with multiple collapsed hydro pylons in the background (at least 6 of them). Photo taken after the January 1998 ice storm.

This one quick trick makes your Gmail app work: either get a new phone for $1200 or erase everything you've done for the last 3 years on your current one!

It really feels like a Google Phone with Google OS loading a Google App for a Google Service should be one of their "just works" features but I guess having a badly photoshopping AI is a bigger marketing feature.

Really bummed out that the Gmail App (on Android) has been so enshittified that I can't read emails in any of my sorted folders (Promotions, Updates, etc.). A full app reset only makes it work for a few hours.

My old Yaris has 300k+ km on it. I might need to replace it in a few years. I'd love to get a European small car instead of having to find the smallest McMansion-on-Wheels currently in the Canadian market.

If Canada is going to become an Associate Member of the EU, a great spot to start would be recognizing EU vehicle safety and emissions standards. That would open an easy pathway to increase the availability of small, fuel efficient vehicles in the Canadian market.

I wasn't able to find it in the Positron extensions list. Do you know if it's that because of a license incompatiblity or has it not been approved to their subset of extensions?

It was relatively cold out overnight, so with the high air exchange rate in the lab we're still only at 17 °C inside. It's officially solid DMSO weather in the lab! #chemchat 🍂

Completely bonkers. You get laid off after the international red eye flights have finished boarding? To the gulags! You get laid off formally by your company going under, after not having been paid for weeks and having no liquid assets? To the gulags!

Philip Bulsink 🇨🇦 @philip.bulsink.ca · 09/09/2026
Ask forgiveness not permission? Or get facilities staff to do the same? You could always get the hood flow tested after you do the installation if someone gets nervous.
111
Philip Bulsink 🇨🇦 @philip.bulsink.ca · 09/09/2026
Not a flow dynamicist etc., but we have a few hoods with various (closed/sealed) access ports through the side walls and there's no issues with the face flow. I think as long as you're sealing it up reasonably ok it should be fine?

Of course with an 85mm a wide shot isn't possible, but you could use it to find unique features (interesting curves, a mis-placed tree, whatever) or head toward abstract shots?
010
Philip Bulsink 🇨🇦 @philip.bulsink.ca · 04/09/2026
I have a 50mm f/1.8 and I love it for layering landscape/building shots to highlight a unique feature with foreground and background blur. It makes the shot a little more unique because most often those shots are done at like f/8 or f/11 so everything is in focus.

This, to me, implies Max goes to Aston Martin, and RB doesn't see themselves signing Alonso or Stroll (hahahaha) as a one for one trade, nor finding another driver compelling enough to pinch from somewhere else.

Philip Bulsink 🇨🇦 @philip.bulsink.ca · 19/08/2026
Conspiracy theory time: this is how Red Bull give Liam Lawson another experience to see if they can replace Max at the end of the year through promotion instead of a new driver signing. #F1

I am *not* advocating using LLM for everything from rewriting emails, summarizing documents, generating published works, etc. but a targeted focused use as a tool of which outcomes must be validated.
000
Philip Bulsink 🇨🇦 @philip.bulsink.ca · 01/08/2026
I think the discourse on "become an expert first then use LLM to do more research faster" is correct. While chemistry may have different types of questions than mathematics, we should keep the door open to the ask -> receive -> validate cycle like described here.
