The kind of brick and mortar shops that can compete with online are specialist shops with knowledgeable staff who can give opportunities to try or taste before you buy. Unfortunately those are the ones that don't make enough money to satisfy landlords and financiers.

Some US people who are getting really excited about the more out-there claims in/about the Epstein Files need to read about the 2010s British "VIP paedophiles" debacle, which probably led to some real abusers getting away with it because of the subsequent backlash.

I think that's a fair headline. I recently read the doorstopper of the earliest Superman comics that DC put out. I was expecting the lefty outlook, but I was a bit surprised by how often early Superman wins by just beating nonpowered people up, or threatening to do so if they don't stop being evil.

(the Gawker/Hogan judgement was at several multiples of the largest ever libel award in the British courts, and even more multiples of the biggest privacy award. I don't think the UK has ever seen a case where billionaire bankrolled the destruction of a publication)
