New Hampshire! Our primary is tomorrow. Here's how it works, especially for the majority of registered voters - The Undeclared! Remember - we have same day registration so tomorrow is a great day to register.
NH Secretary of State infographic dated Summer 2026

NH Primaries!

In a PRIMARY ELECTION:

- Voters registered with a political party select candidates to appear as that party's nominee on the General Election ballot; and

- Both parties consider their Primary Election results when determining delegates to the state and national party conventions.

THE PRIMARY ELECTION PROCESS:

Voter receives a ballot determined by their registered party affiliation. *NOTE: Undeclared Voters must declare party affiliation as either Democrat or Republican.
➡️
Voter marks ballot according to posted instructions.
➡️
Voter casts ballot. *NOTE: If the voter was previously registered as "Undeclared", that voter has the right to return their party affiliation to "Undeclared".

(Anthropomorphic Teacher's Pencil with text in speech bubbles)
In NH, a voter has the option to register as "Democrat", "Republican", or "Undeclared".

For primary elections, you cannot change your party affiliation after the designated date to do so!

Check the NH Secretary of State's website to find out the final date to change party affiliation.

The Ballot Clerk is legally required to announce your name twice, and at Primaries only, your party affiliation. This process helps confirm voter identity and allows party-appointed challengers and members of the public to monitor the check-in process accurately.

All registered voters may vote, but for a primary election, only Undeclared Voters have the choice of requesting a Democrat or Republican ballot. Such a voter becomes a member of that party until they change affiliation after voting.

Some IRL stuff offered an alternative today - some Peter Parker action. (Zero intent to bring you down - the synergy of these posts was funny and I hope the photographer wouldn't be mad being compared to Jimmy Olsen or Peter Parker.)
Two posts on bsky in the order they appeared in my feed. Om the bottom, @betarayben posts, "First Sunday after the end of season 3 of MY ADVENTURES WITH SUPERMAN, feels super-weird not to have some batshit Jimmy Olsen situation happening this morning."

Post immediately above, from @lookitup.baby, "I love Minneapolis" with a photo of a man dressed as Spiderman popping over a tilted cross, getting ready to enact some vigilante justice on a known white supremacist.

To their credit, the Free Staters kicked Kauffman out in 2023 while the NHLP increased his leadership role. The bears come regardless. (That book was a hoot and I highly recommend it for anyone who is in town government with a volunteer fire department.)

Good job hitting your dissertation goal and I am really glad to see you sticking with your mh work. I'm not ignoring the larger issue you raise - I'm focusing on what I can impact today. (That's part of my mh work.) Scooter says you can rub his belly. (Seriously, it is not a trap.)
A brown tabby cat has his head resting on the edge of a grey cushioned cat bed at the top of a cat tree. He is content and getting ready to drift off to sleep. A small oil painting of a scene from Texas is behind him.The same brown tabby is upside down on a cardboard cat scratcher in a large cardboard box that once held fruit. His feet are in the air and he is scratching his back side to side on the board hoping to entice someone to rub his belly. (I did.)

(Covid 19 Announcement is written in white over an aerial photo of the facility at sunset. It's in a carousel setup but there is nothing else and the link is dead.)

Nestled on 13 acres on Lake Mamanasco in scenic Ridgefield, Ct. (60 miles north of New York City), this former Jesuit house was acquired in 1979. At that time, St. Ignatius Retreat House served as St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary for the International Priestly Society of St. Pius X. In 1988, due to the growing number of seminarians, St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary relocated to Winona, MN and St. Ignatius Retreat house was established as the principal Retreat House for the District of the United States. Hundreds of priests, seminarians, laity and students have attended retreats and have passed through our halls. Located on site is Christ the King Church, and Padre Pio Academy. Currently, St. Ignatius Retreat House is home to 4 priests, 1 Monsignor, and 3 brothers. The priests who reside here minister to various chapels in the Northeast. Please come visit us for a retreat, support our school, and pray for our Apostolate. May God Bless you.

     Sincerely,

Rev. Fr. Jean Violette - Prior

Hey, is that Jujubee that likes to hang in your lap? Our brown tabby, Scooter, is my lap cat. He's got the personality of that nice young man who will come help you move furniture for some beer and pizza.
A large brown tabby cat is on his back, feet up, belly exposed, sleeping. He is on a tan blanket that is on human legs like a hammock. This time the hammock has slid down to the sofa because he wiggled so much when he was turning onto his back. He's using the right leg as a bit of a leg rest for himself. The human is feeling a bit mummified. The cat is completely in relaxed bliss.

Speaking of bears, the female who usually hangs out next door just stopped by hoping for food. Both of these pictures are *close*, like she's about 5 feet from the house in the one with the bright plants and about 10 feet away in the other picture. Closer than the deer. 🐻
A medium-sized adult black bear stands on a 3-foot wide concrete "manhole cover" with one foot just getting ready to step off. She is sniffing the ground for strawberries. Video still from an IR camera, so b/w image. Medium-sized adult black bear is walking from the driveway towards the front door (it's fine, there's a path, this is normal.) You can see the smaller (for adult bears) legs, less chonky, narrow wedge-shaped head, ears seem large relative to skull. This is a female who frequents the neighbors.

It's SO easy. I mean, this was last week (you can just see the burn pile in the back right). See the unraked leaves? Unmowed "lawn" - you get rewarded for being lazy with deer, turkeys, lightning bugs, birds, and, of course, Kevin the Bear.
White tailed deer, a doe, stands amidst a yard of tall grasses, wild parsnip, wild strawberry, and maple saplings. She has her head up after snacking her way across the yard. Apparently it's good browse.

GENERAL BONKING FORM

Dear social media user,

In the interest of transparency, as well as the maintenance of an agreeable conversation, this form will provide you with an after-the-fact record that will explain why you are being ignored, blocked/banned, or just generally mocked.

This is happening to you because you (check all that apply)

🔳 posted disinformation, including disinfo originating in Russia, the right-wing, or both (it's 'both' a lot)

🔳 said something racist, antisemitic, misogynist, nativist, or bigoted in some other unusually creative or noteworthy way

🔳 doubled down by insisting that you as the offender were the arbiter of what was racist, antisemitic, nativist, misogynist or bigoted in some other way rather than the offended person

🔳 are obviously a bot, spammer, or other form of coordinated inauthentic behavior

🔳 keep arguing badly while insisting you're winning

🔳 were just generally kind of annoying

🔳 thought, mistakenly, that Wu Tang Clan is something to f**k with

🔳 demonstrated you didn't read the post/get the meme but commented anyway

🔳 unreasonably stole content (there being "reasonable theft", e.g. non-watermarked memes)

🔳 were unreasonably rude (yes, there is a "reasonably rude")

🔳 started an unreasonable fight (see: "reasonably rude")

🔳 repeatedly engage in bad-faith rhetorical tactics

🔳 unreasonably personally insult other commenters (again, a thing)

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

JUST HAVE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I'm a fan of 2 Kings 23-25. Kids who live in bear country get a real kick from this one.
2 Kings 2:23-25
New International Version
Elisha Is Jeered
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. 25 And he went on to Mount Carmel and from there returned to Samaria.Video still of two adult black bears, female on the left, bigger bear, a male on the right (Kevin). Both are on all fours, nose and ears forward, walking up to the house for a routine food smells inspection. It's 6:11pm on June 12, 2025, a sunny day, so this is a daylight visit. They smell dinner inside. You can get a rough height on the female bear based on the driveway marker behind her (marking the well head).

Malone, NY 20 total arrests from 2/28/25 to 5/12/26
Criminal charges are Assault, Burglary, Family Offences, Homicide

Before and After! New approach has a safer approach for the carrier (driveway) and the box is hanging above standard plow height. On the back of the mailbox 2x4 will be a small planter. Also, the house marker is now in front of the house, which matters in an area where GPS is routinely wrong.
A mailbox is mounted on a 4x4 post in a white 5gal bucket on the side of the road in rural Northern New England. Two driveway markers are being used to hold the bucket in place. The mailbox is tilted forwards and looks sad. However, it is a beautiful day with blue skies, a few fluffy white clouds, the dandelions are blooming. A new reflective house marker and mailbox are mounted to a weathered 4x4 post. The mailbox is white, hanging from a shiny silver chain (zinc coated steel). The 2x4 from which the mailbox is hanging also extends out the back for future flowerpot.

Kevin the Bear is back to do his Spring inspection. He's been in the burdocks again. 🐻 #wildlife

Honestly, as far as possible. I was closer than normal for this photo but had terrain in my favor in case the moose became agitated at all. Here's the same shot without the zoom lens and you can see the width of the river and that I'm shooting down from a high bank.
A moose stands in but on the opposite side of a very wide, shallow river. An old birch tree is in the foreground.

Not my first moose of the year (or even today!) but the first one I could safely photograph. #wildlife
A young, healthy appearing moose of indeterminate gender stands in a swift moving but shallow river, next to a mossy bank. The moose is almost sideways to the camera (and parallel with the river bank and flow), but their head is up to look at me with one eye and keep an ear forward. The birch trees in the foreground have giant buds.

Tried taking the former owner's excessive number of chicken coops to the town burn pile. Got told we needed a "demolition permit" (no, we did not) but that's OK. I am handling this the old fashioned way.
A bunch of old scrap wood is on fire. The land around it is bare dirt. There are trees in the background but they aren't close. A single beam of sunlight is shining through the smoke.

Tonight I learned that Scooter the Cat is now afraid of thunder. I am entirely perplexed by this because he seemed just fine last Summer and DNGAF about thundersnow, but tonight? He went for an interior wall away from windows.
A brown mackerel tabby cat lays across the foot area of a large recliner. His torso, not stretched, covers the width of the recliner. He is a large cat. His rear is on the right side, tail hanging off. His front is on the left, shoulder and paw tucked under is 1.5 inches from the edge. He is on his side, propped up on his shoulder to better look at you and implore you to do his bidding.

The best picture I've ever taken of a dog, IMHO, is William doing FastCAT, a timed lure chase event. He's a sled dog but he sure wanted Swifty that day. He has one of the loveliest gallops of any of our dogs and it was nice to see it on a straightaway, instead of making zigzags at play.
Orange snow fencing in the foreground, chain link amd woods in the background. A Siberian Husky runs as fast as possible chasing a tea towel on a rope. He is in the contraction phase of a double-suspension gallop: despite an essentially flat back, his front feet are in and under* and his rear legs are also in and under. No feet are touching the ground at this moment.
*although straight and almost touching ground because of the photo timing

Post the best picture you have ever taken of your pet. Jinx tolerates my existence - she has claimed The Girl as hers - but this is one of my favorite photos of an animal ever. (Next I'll post my fav dog pic.)
A small black cat is on her back on a tile floor. She is stretching in a curve, her paws are extended and toes are stretched out wide, her mouth is open and you can see all her teeth. It's got a bit of an Aliens but Cute vibe.

The very first flower has pushed its way through mud, leaves, and the last snow (Wednesday!) to emerge, bright and beautiful.
A purple crocus stands tall amidst an inch of leaf cover, next to a hunk of granite. It is a splash of vivid purple amidst trampled brown.Same crocus flower from the top, showing the detail of the petals and the bright orange stamen in the center.

It is April in the North Country and that means alternating between rain showers and snow showers. These are the same trees, just a few hours apart. Where the ground is not accumulating snow is probably a spot where the birds are active.
Cluster of tiny spruce trees getting dusted with snow, like someone is gently dusting them with powdered sugar. Same spruce tree cluster as before (slightly different angle) but now it's like a 5 year old glopped on a bunch of icing on the trees and on the ground. It's just a mess, not picturesque.
