I was gonna let it rest, but it's just so weird to me that the CTO of this place seemingly spends all his time waxing lyrical about how awesome AI is and how not using it is delusional, and meanwhile this has been happening for I think over a week now?

There's a competition going on to decide the new € bank note designs and some of them are really striking (you can vote for your favorites here if you like!) #designsky

Seems to be working for the border but not the text as yet in Safari. Still, really neat that this is becoming possible!

Whatever patchwork fix for this they rolled out doesn't deal with variations, apparently. I don't even wanna know the depths of spaghetti code they're using to clumsily pretend this is working

When Duolingo went all-in on AI, I switched to Renshuu for my sporadic Japanese learning, and for the most part it's been great. Some of the community-supplied mnemonics, on the other hand...

Updating my personal site and it’s starting to come together, so I thought I’d share a little preview of the landing page for #PortfolioDay Made in @figma.com #UI #designsky #BuildInPublic
The landing page of the portfolio. The central text reads "Hi! I'm Philip, a creative developer based in Germany - I tailor elegant designs and write sound code for websites that have a voice." The word "creative" is stylized with a squiggly underline, and "developer" is written as though it were an HTML tag. Underneath there is a link reading "Continue to Portfolio" that also doubles as a progress bar, as the above will be animated. On the edges of the page are a hamburger menu, an English-German language switcher, a music widget, and a social nav.The mobile version of the landing page. The elements that were previously on the design have been consolidated into a menu bar at the bottom of the page.

Neat little UI design trick I picked up from the Apple Developer docs: When you have a non-rounded element in a rounded container, getting the spacing between them right can be finicky. Blurring it gives you an idea of the visual weight and simplifies natural-looking alignment 👌 #UI #designsky
A screenshot from the Apple Developer Documentation. The text reads "To help place nonrounded content correctly, you can blur elements and aim to make the border of the resulting rounded, blurrred shapes as concentric as possible with even margins to make them fit best with the outer perimeter." Underneath there are two visual examples, one where some text is sitting to close to the edge of a pill-shaped container, and another where the same text has been made to look rounder by blurring and then nudged away from the edge to give it more even spacing all the way around.

Some designs for a game review platform I was prototyping at one point. Still thinking about turning this into a real thing 🤔 Made in @figma.com #UI #WebDesign #designsky
Desktop and mobile view of a gaming review website interface. The page's heading and subheading read: "Games curated to your tastes! Rate games on the criteria that matter to you". Underneath the headings is a call-to-action button that reads "discover games free". The hero section shows a curated game, along with it's title, developer, and tags. Additionally, the number of reviews, overall sentiment, and standout features of the game are highlighted, such as engaging mechanics, or auditory accessibility. The mobile view shows the navigation which consists of links to home, search, discover, blog, and contact, as well as a button to manage the user's profile.Desktop and mobile view of the details page of the site, with the reviews panel and comment section visible. The reviews can be filtered for auditory, visual, motor, cognitive, and content accessibility and each game can be ranked in one of these categories as exceptional, great, decent, flawed, or avoid.

About once a year, I rewatch this excellent video essay about Spirited Away and its ruminations on liminality and identity. Happened to see it before it was taken down on YouTube, and now it lives over here: plainflavoredenglish.com/2020/02/18/u... Highly recommend it!
