a ban on goods trade with settlements on illegally occupied territory is a "punishment package" to "win back pro-Gaza voters"

my understanding is that this substack is primarily authored by conservative party staffers in their 20s.. and as far as i can tell this entire article is basically a call for genocide

the thing is the economic thinking on the right basically amounts to "we should be more like america." meanwhile, in america

i guess this is just our country now. sad
An "ugly" racism reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s has become worryingly commonplace again in modern Britain and NHS staff are bearing the brunt of it, Wes Streeting has warned.
Incidents of verbal and physical abuse based on people's skin colour now happen so often that it has become "socially acceptable to be racist", the health secretary said.
In a joint interview with the Guardian alongside the NHS England chief executive, Jim Mackey, Streeting told how he has been "shocked" hearing NHS staff, especially those working in A&E, recount growing levels of harassment, aggression and violence when their care gets delayed.

the funniest thing about those memes has to be that the people paying the most tax are objectively least likely to vote for the right

but people in the midlands in particular are the only region that think there is "a great deal" vs "somewhat" prevalence of racism.. which is the opposite of what i would have thought

my dad works for BA cargo and has been scathing about the internal systems since they were outsourced to tata. there's been multiple downtime incidents and supposedly their support is also basically useless

waiting for the anon british rw accounts that are probably actually conservative party staffers to discover the "xinjiang solution" to the pakistani question and then excitedly produce substack posts about how a government consisting of Real British Patriots could go about implementing it

lemkin made compromises to arrive at a definition of genocide that UN states (particularly the US) would sign on to. but it's clear from his prior body of work that he would have considered the totality of israel's treatment of palestinians since 1948 as constituting genocide

did you know that it’s highly likely that the initial covid spillover into humans wouldn’t have happened without a nationwide african swine fever outbreak in china disrupting pork supply? a pandemic causing a pandemic
Deadly pig disease could have led to Covid spillover to humans, analysis suggestsPork is the main meat source in the Chinese diet, and the country produces half of the world’s pigs, which generate roughly 55m tonnes of pork annually, forming an industry worth more than $128bn (£98bn). The ASF outbreak had spread across most of China by the fourth quarter of 2019. The disease is untreatable and incurable. Once it takes hold, the only solution is to kill infected animals.

The dramatic drop in pork supply, after restrictions on movement of pigs and culling led to price rises, escalated demand for alternative sources of meat to be transported nationwide. These sources included wild animals, thus greatly increasing opportunities for human-coronavirus contact, a team of researchers from China and the UK have suggested in a yet to be peer-reviewed analysis.
