Statement from Pittsburgh City Councilmember Barb Warwick on Governor Josh Shapiro's Executive Order on Data Centers: "I am grateful to Gov. Josh Shapiro for his recent Executive Order that implements some of the strictest standards in the nation on new data center construction.
graphic with Pittsburgh City Council District 5 seal and text reading "Statement from Pittsburgh City Councilmember Barb Warwick on Governor Josh Shapiro's Executive Order on Data Centers"text reading "I am grateful to Gov. Josh Shapiro for his recent Executive Order that implements some of the strictest standards in the nation on new data center construction. Not only does it put the decision-making power squarely in the hands of local government, it also removes "fast track" state-level permitting and ensures transparency by barring NDAs from all levels of the process. My hope is that our State legislature sees the wisdom in his action and also follows suit.

Large-scale data centers severely impact the environment and communities in which they are built due to size, noise, and the massive amount of water and electricity that they consume. These data centers strain our aging power grid while communities shoulder the costs of higher utility bills.

My hope is that local governments across the Commonwealth see the value in the agency our Governor has handed us with regard to building data centers locally, so that we may protect our residents with the appropriate rules"

It’s going to be hot this week, and we want you to stay safe and prepared.
• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
• If you have to be outside, wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning whenever possible.
• Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, typically between 10 am and 4 pm.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
• Check on older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
• Wear sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
• Know the signs of heat-related illness. If someone becomes dizzy, confused, nauseous, or stops sweating, move them to a cool place, give them water if they’re alert, and call 911 if symptoms are severe.
