"We are all born sexual creatures, thank god. It’s a pity so many people despise and crush this natural gift." Marilyn Monroe nearly graced our cover for a second time, but she died before the shoot. Here's the hidden history of her lost Playboy cover:

In the fall of 2012, Stephen Colbert sat down with Playboy — one of the rare times he agreed to be interviewed as himself rather than as his character — and explained that fear is a political weapon. Satire is an antidote. Thirteen years later, his reflection turned out to be a premonition.

And finally: I sent a friend inside the wild world of SNCTM, a $2,000-a-ticket orgy in Beverly Hills inspired by "Eyes Wide Shut." Naturally, he ran into his ex-girlfriend. (This is also a shameless plug for our Substack.) playboy.substack.com/p/playboy-un...

I also loved MacNeill on how AI is changing porn, and Erika Lust's optimism that even porn purveyors will choose humanity: "consumers who actively want real humans, real connection, real intimacy, real images—and who start to value transparency as part of arousal.” www.playboy.com/read/sex-rel...

We also gathered the authors Darnell Moore and Kiese Laymon for a frank conversation about what it means to be a Black man at this moment—a reflection on James Baldwin's seminal Playboy essay called "Freaks and the American Ideal of Manhood." www.playboy.com/read/enterta...

You may know Chad Moore as the photographer who shot Oliva Rodrigo's most recent album cover. For our Spring Issue, we asked him to capture his girlfriend nude. They stripped in front of the Brooklyn Bridge (!) for one of my favorite photos I've ever published. www.playboy.com/read/enterta...

One of our earliest "hits" — on social and in traffic — came after a PornHub survey showed trans porn on the rise. We asked trans adult creators to open up about the dissonance of desire; how it feels to be sexually pursued but politically persecuted. www.playboy.com/read/sex-rel...

I also asked my friend, Taylor Hale (the first Black woman to win "Big Brother") to be our Miss March. She wrote her own essay to accompany the story. Here, she opens up about the men who tried to take her naked body away from her—and why she's reclaiming her image. www.playboy.com/read/my-nake...

I called my friend @jpbrammer.bsky.social to tackle "Clavicular" for Playboy. Tired of the reductive takes that "the manosphere is gay" (that's not a good thing), he wrote instead that Clavicular was the opposite of an alpha. He's the algorithm's little sub. www.playboy.com/read/enterta...

For our Spring Issue, we sent the brave Camille Sojit Pejcha on a cruise with 2,000 swingers, where she faced lube wrestling, MAGA conservatives, and...a bunch of people just looking for a place to be themselves without shame. www.playboy.com/read/enterta...

I thought it might be helpful to highlight some of my favorite pieces we've published so far. First up: An essay from Josh Gondelman on...his wife! “I love to wake up and love my wife every day, and I love knowing that she is making the same choice.” www.playboy.com/read/sex-rel...

Hi there! I'm Phill, and I'm the new EIC of Playboy. I'm here because, in our age of encroaching censorship, I believe sexuality can be a powerful tool for freedom of expression. I also believe that, in our lonely and polarized times, we should reach out and touch each other. (Consensually.)

So many of our legacy media brands have histories worth confronting and challenging (and celebrating). That’s why I’m here! But I also understand Playboy is not for everyone. Just letting you know there’s a team here (who I love and respect very much), and we’re working hard to get it right. Xx

Hi Josie, I am the new EIC of Playboy. I started in March, with the Spring issue being my first. I was previously the former EIC of Out Magazine, and the founder of them. I also launched Teen Vogue’s politics and reproductive justice coverage as their Chief Content Officer from 2015—2019.
