Today we are very proud of our own @javedlove.bsky.social , who has exercised his legal right to withdraw from teaching RE and Collective Worship. Javed is the first teacher in NI to exercise this right for at least 10 years. Find out why he did so below. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Statement from the PFIE officer group on the JR87 ruling yesterday.
Statement from Parents for Inclusive Education NI on the JR87 ruling:

Parents for Inclusive Education NI welcomes the landmark UK Supreme Court ruling in JR87, which confirms that Northern Ireland’s current RE curriculum breaches children’s and families’ human rights. The Court found that RE in it’s current form is not “objective, critical and pluralistic” and amounts to indoctrination - and identified the failings of the Department of Education to monitor and safeguard what and how children are being taught.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to JR87 and her father for bringing this case. We do not know them, but are in awe of their bravery and perseverance in taking a stand on such an epic scale. They, and all families like them who have been resoundingly let down by the current framework, have been throughly vindicated by the highest court in the land.It is important for us to re-state that as a group,
we are not campaigning to remove RE or Christianity from schools, far from it. We want RE to be objective, pluralistic, balanced, inclusive and respectful of
every child and every family, regardless of belief.

Yesterday was a momentous, watershed moment and
now is the time for meaningful change. We are excited, optimistic, and fully committed to immediately moving forward to work with a pluralistic and interfaith panel of suitably qualified and experienced educators, policymakers, academics, faith groups and families to build an RE curriculum that truly reflects the diversity of modern Northern Ireland.

This poll shows that parents across Northern Ireland support a more inclusive approach to RE that educates children about a variety of religious and non-religious worldviews. Let's make it happen!
