WASHINGTON — A National Guard member is being held in jail after he allegedly pointed his loaded service weapon at a fellow guard member during a break from patrol at the end of August.

Zion Mitchell, 21, was arrested last week. He is a National Guard member from Georgia who was deployed to D.C.

On Aug. 25, Mitchell was sitting with a group of guard members inside a black van parked outside Popeyes on H Street Northeast when he got into an argument with a fellow guard member over their hair styles, according to arresting documents. They were reportedly disagreeing on whether their hair followed Army regulation.

Yeah she’s a boss but her family members were literally major league baseball players i mean if she showed any interest in baseball I would assume her families ability to get her training isn’t like most families. Some girls play with the boys, girls devolp (great spelling) at a much younger age than boys. Again she’s a boss but she should be playing with girls tbh.

Good for her. She should be on a softball team with girls though. Let boys have their sport. One girl in a team of boys throws off the dynamic. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.

She’s matured faster than the boys. It’s science. Yeah she’s good at that age but in 3 years it’ll be a joke. She’s taking the spot from some young boy wanting to play that level. I don’t want to hear about women losing spots in college sports from dudes when this shit is happening

Finally, we want you to know that planned construction of an arch on Memorial Circle on the Virginia side of Memorial Bridge and proposed renovations to the golf course in East Potomac Park could significantly affect the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile course. Memorial Bridge and Memorial Circle are among the race's most memorable sections, offering runners sweeping views of both the Potomac and their fellow race participants, and construction of the Arch and its presence could mean that we lose access to the roadway there. In addition, early renderings of the golf course plans suggest that Ohio Drive, the perimeter road around Hains Point and a three-mile cherry tree laden section of the course that runners have enjoyed for decades, could be permanently eliminated.

There is A LOT to sift through in this 123-page report and accompanying memo (most of it not good, as you can imagine), but this bit from the memo particularly punched me in the gut. You have/had the top scientists at your agencies and you kneecapped them, belittled them, and fired them.

give them genuine discretion to define technical problems, build a research portfolio, and manage toward ambitious outcomes. Agencies should consider approaches for recruiting top scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists into time-limited public service
and raising their prestige, visibility, and authority. Agencies should also assess options for reducing barriers to hiring program officers from non-traditional backgrounds, expanding rotational mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Personnel Act, and developing competitive compensation and career pathways that make program management a career enhancing opportunity for top scientific talent. Agencies should also develop or enforce mechanisms to ensure that conflict of interest policies are strictly followed for all employees involved in funding recommendations and decisions.
