Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 12/03/2026Still, they could include a "you might also like" section at the bottom of each page of settings, and/or give each setting some optional hidden keywords visible to Search. The one I wanted is called "Screen Timeout" but when I searched for "Auto Lock" it could have been included in my results. 010
Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 12/03/2026They could convert to a tag-based structure so the same feature can appear in all three sections... but that defies expectations ("what's the difference between these two identically named settings in different sections?") and hampers new users from scrolling through all the settings. 110
Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 12/03/2026It's essentially the same problem they had in browsability: does this feature go under screen, battery, or security? It has impacts on all three, after all. 120
Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 12/03/2026For anything as complex and versatile as Android, I think search is inevitable. But I see what @getmeos.com means here... It shouldn't be viewed as an alternative to a good browsable structure. In my case there was ambiguity: do I search for "auto-lock"? "screen timeout"? "sleep when idle"? 210

Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 12/03/2026"make it a setting" is the universal solution, but won't all these granular settings impact discoverability for the important ones? Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 09/01/2026What DOES seem like a genuine crime against humanity (I am not a lawyer) is mass deportation. It's one of the examples specifically listed in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (which the US withdrew from in 2002). Lawful deportations are an exception, but you need due process. 👀 030
Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 09/01/2026Not sure if it's applicable in this case (question of scale, mostly) but here's the term y'all are reaching for. Probably time we all brushed up on it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimes_...share.googleCrimes against humanity - Wikipedia 140
Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 27/12/2025Well, shit! If there's no accepted standard, and you're confident your method is better than how you've seen others doing it, then maybe your method is the one that ought to be standard! Do you really need a preamble at all? 210
Pete Modica-Soloway @peteyx.bsky.social · 27/12/2025Yeah, I see the problem. Everyone with enough experience develops their own ways of doing things, but it's helpful to at least know the standard version so collaborators don't think you're from Mars. I don't suppose there's enough time to teach both versions and explain the benefits of your variant? 100
