One, perhaps two, of our postdocs are moving on to faculty positions this year (more news soon!). While they're truly irreplaceable, it does mean that we have openings for new members to join our team studying #cilia. If interested, please apply: academicpositions.harvard.edu/postings/15526

Long shot, but, with lots of labs turning from crystallography to cryo-EM I’m wondering if anyone knows of labs potentially looking to offload some of their old crystallography supplies to a PUI with potential screening hits and really eager students but nothing to harvest with, etc.?

Please repost! This comes from the good people at ChimeraX, who produce powerful up-to-date software to study protein (etc) structures, which are FREE to the community. 🙏 To stay viable and serve us, they need an experienced structural biologist to assume the leadership role on a funded project.

I am excited to share my perspective in ASBMB Today (@asbmb.bsky.social) In this piece I discuss how I’ve used an opioids case study to teach introductory cell and molecular biology. I am happy to chat with anyone interested in learning more! www.asbmb.org/asbmb-today/...

1/8 I am excited to share a new paper from the education side of the lab. There is a lot of anxiety that genAI tools will jeopardize learning gains from homework assignments. Using Bloom's Taxonomy, we analyzed where genAI succeeds and where it struggles. journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...

I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.

Ismar shared his work in a lightning talk this morning at @asbmb.bsky.social and will be at poster 34 this afternoon to share more about his efforts to characterize a novel SNARE complex involved in AMPA receptor delivery during memory formation.

I’m looking to hire a research technician for my lab at Harvard & DFCI, who would primarily work in the wet lab expressing and characterizing designed proteins, starting this summer. A great role for a recent college grad looking for an immersive research experience before grad school.

Very cool work in multiple structure alignment. We have already used Foldseek to classify large BioEmu datasets, and I’m excited to try FoldMason to get even finer analysis of the conformational landscape of predicted protein structures.
