'Speaking of Muslims in Britain, Councillor Feeney said “they're in our judiciary, they're in our schools, they're in our healthcare, they're everywhere, and they are not working on our side, they're against us".'
When out knocking on doors, Councillor Feeney said “if it's an Asian name, I'm not even knocking at the door, they’re not voting Reform and I ain’t wasting my time". He calls his approach to campaigning “Alan’s racist canvassing”.

Speaking of Muslims in Britain, Councillor Feeney said “they're in our judiciary, they're in our schools, they're in our healthcare, they're everywhere, and they are not working on our side, they're against us".

He said he believed that “no more than one percent of British population can be non-white”.

“When a house comes up for sale, white people need to be in there,” he told ITV’s undercover reporter. “You almost need to out-Muslim the Muslims.

“You'd need a proper nuclear option, like literally drag them at their homes, stick them on planes and f*** them off to Pakistan. Which you’ll never do in a month of Sundays.”

“I am still grateful to my tutors who were incredibly dedicated to making sure I was safely launched into the wider world after graduation. One helped me find a fascinating job in a firm of antiquarian book dealers, Bernard Quaritch Ltd. Another suggested I do some book reviewing in my spare time. And so, I spent three years working in the book trade and writing literary journalism in the evenings. My writing career became busier and busier until eventually I landed a job as the assistant books editor for The Times. After a couple of years that job developed into a weekly opinion column. I'm now working on my first book.”

'...it requires no effort to measure out your life in World Cups...not only which year it was and who won but where you were and who you were with and why you were with them and what the preoccupations of that time were from which it was possible, however briefly, to escape.'
In English, it’s called the World Cup, but I prefer the stirring names by which it’s known in other European languages—Mundial, Mondiali, Weltmeisterschaft—and which better convey the idea that this is not a sports tournament but something closer to a cosmological event, heavy with meaning. For soccer people, it requires no effort to measure out your life in World Cups. Just a few seconds of footage, or even a photograph, is usually enough—the color of the turf, the haircuts, the uniforms, the exact shade of summer blue—to ascertain not only which year it was and who won but where you were and who you were with and why you were with them and what the preoccupations of that time were from which it was possible, however briefly, to escape.

'On any given day, roughly three million tractor-trailers ferry goods along American highways, and it is only because of some perverse collective disavowal that any of us, in our dinky cars, agree to share the road with them.' Looking forward to reading this piece by Patrick Radden Keefe
On any given day, roughly three million tractor-trailers ferry goods along American highways, and it is only because of some perverse collective disavowal that any of us, in our dinky cars, agree to share the road with them. Large trucks account for five per cent of the vehicles in the United States but play a role in ten per cent of fatal accidents. A fully loaded eighteen-wheeler can weigh eighty thousand pounds. It takes time for such vehicles to accelerate to highway speeds, but, by the same physics, once they’ve achieved such velocity it takes time for them to stop. A big rig thundering along a freeway at sixty-five miles per hour is a juggernaut: even if the driver slams the brakes, the truck will advance the length of two football fields before finally coming to a halt.

In America, more than five thousand people are killed each year in accidents involving large trucks, and the victims tend to be occupants of smaller vehicles.

'I’ll also outline challenges, including future problems like the mutability of allegedly unique and persistent biometrics like iris or even DNA , and speculate about the possibility of reflecting social structures properly in designs to create more fair and resilient systems'
We have many forms of identity, whether socially constructed (kinship, personas, relationships), or issued via organisations (employers, banks, clubs, government). These identities can be partly stored as a digital twin (e.g. by recording biometric information plus some identifier/number, and then possibly linked to other information credentials or entitlements – e.g. citizenship, age, health, finance, educational records and so on).

These digital ecosystems can be designed to allow us to control (access to) such data, or they can be part of state and commercial surveillance. The trustworthiness of such ecosystems is highly questionable. I’ll walk through alternative designs and give examples of benefits and disadvantages, including threats (fake id, denial of service etc).

In this talk, I’ll also outline challenges, including future problems like the mutability of allegedly unique and persistent biometrics like iris or even DNA , and speculate about the possibility of reflecting social structures properly in designs to create more fair and resilient systems that might be more acceptable than many deployed or proposed today

'promoted ideas of British decline' is certainly one way to put it www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
These ideas of the UK and Europe in decline have also been taken up by high-profile, influential figures, including X, Tesla and Space X owner Elon Musk, who spoke at far-right activist Tommy Robinson's Unite the Kingdom rally last year.

"What I see happening is a destruction of Britain. Initially a slow erosion, but a rapidly increasing erosion of Britain with massive uncontrolled migration," said Musk. It is a topic he regularly posts about on his X profile, with more than 230 million followers.

'...writing in any language is a kind of collusion between sound and sense...when you’re writing, without even thinking about it, you’re pulling into service innumerable allusions to life as it is understood by your audience, a kind of cultural context…”
“Translation is almost an oxymoron – when I hear translations of my own plays I don’t have to know the other language to be absolutely certain that you can’t do what the English does a lot of the time – not just because of the obvious things like wordplay, but because a lot of writing in any language is a kind of collusion between sound and sense, and you can’t get the sound by inserting an equivalent sense. Furthermore, when you’re writing, without even thinking about it, you’re pulling into service innumerable allusions to life as it is understood by your audience, a kind of cultural context…”

About the GOV reuse library dev.reuselibrary.service.justice.gov.uk/about.html
Productivity is lost across government in trying to find or create elements that already exists - all because we work in silos.

The GOV Reuse Library aims to fix this problem by surfacing reusable elements for all departments to use. This includes:

Design systems
Manuals
Products
Service patterns
Standards
Our aim is to reduce duplication, increase transparency and promote cross-government collaboration. This is in line with the Government's blueprint for a modern digital government to ‘join up and act as one public sector' and 'strengthen and extend our digital public infrastructure'.

A team from the Ministry of Justice UK has built this site in collaboration with the Government Digital Service and the Department for Education.

'Instead, what you get is a piece making the various more or less bovine noises of studious grey-lady impartiality, with the labor of anything resembling “appraisal” surgically excised.'
When writing to a journalist friend, I just said that it’s a bit unravelling, right now, to be on the receiving end of this kind of belated real-time education in elite metabolization. Like so many other bits of Times coverage, the whole of the piece is structured as an orchestrated encounter. Some people say this; however, others say this. It’s so offhand you can think you’re gazing through a pane of glass. Only when you stand a little closer, or when circumstances make you a little less blinkered, do you notice the fact which then becomes blinding and finally crazymaking, which is just that there is zero, less than zero, stress put on the relation between those two “sides,” or their histories, or their sponsors, or their relative evidentiary authority, or any of it. Instead, what you get is a piece making the various more or less bovine noises of studious grey-lady impartiality, with the labor of anything resembling “appraisal” surgically excised.

'...Sometimes that means through layers of intermediaries, user researchers, service designers and workshops. All of that has its place, but nothing beats an engineer being there in person to witness the problems first-hand.'
For years, public sector technology has often been built at a distance from the environments it serves. Sometimes that means through layers of intermediaries, user researchers, service designers and workshops. All of that has its place, but nothing beats an engineer being there in person to witness the problems first-hand.

'Ms Gazeley said she had used AI to help create her submission and accepted it may not be a perfect document.'
One of the legal representatives of the Cambridgeshire County Council challenged Ms Gazeley on her evidence and questioned its credibility.

They highlighted an example in her written submission of a reference she made to an article about the impact of moving trees, which they said did not actually exist.

They said: "You referred to a reference that does not exist. It has been made up and hallucinated by AI."

Ms Gazeley said she had used AI to help create her submission and accepted it may not be a perfect document.
