Glisten Trick created a mighty fine psych noise last night in Manchester, you really should check them out if they come to play near you. Subdued lighting so pics are dodgy, and can barely make out @parramaterial.bsky.social at the back.

Here’s how Season 6 of the #EIO40MusicLeague is looking, unless we have any last minute dropouts. Lost 4 but gained 7 new players, so we’ve expanded L4 to 12 and L5 to 13, and likely 3 up & 3 down between those two leagues. Song entries by 8pm tonight, good luck everyone!
The split of players into the 5 leagues as Season 6 of the EIO40 Music Leagues starts this week. Normal 11 in the first 3 leagues, 12 in L4 & 13 in L5. It shows which players were relegated and which were promoted / shuffled up from last season, and the new players starting in L5.

We won 4-0 in the end, with the vital 4th goal scored in the last minute by yours truly 🥳 5 weeks before the next round. And yes the game was played at a posh school, Cheadle Hulme.

And here it is in all its glory, now the spoiler free period is over. Alt Text contains my thinking .
A matrix of possible words for my Wordle attempts yesterday.
I had _I_ER but so many potential letters, including I, E and R.
I quickly skimmed over it and highlighted in bold the words I thought existed and counted 13 in total. Now one or two of them may not actually be right, and worse there could be other obscure words that I didn’t see.
So with V having 5 possibles I wanted that in my next guess.
Also wanted S, but plumped for another R, so went with RIVER for my 5th attempt.
And was right, phew.

Did you realise that modern packing peanuts are dissolvable. I didn’t until relatively recently, but here’s the proof.
A bath full of multicoloured packing peanuts, looks like plastic polystyrene but isn’t A quick sprinkling of water over the whole pile has started the process of dissolving them, but still in a discernible pile in the bath. The pile of packing peanuts are almost down to a single layer of mushPlenty of water and lots of manual mixing is now needed to dissolve them down to their corn starch and down the plug hole, but almost there. That’s all the proof you’re getting.

Yeah it was a fab day. Really pleased I can be seen, just lucky Colin took the selfie before the seats in between were occupied. 😈 And here’s the opposite view from my seat.
Pop crazed youngsters waiting for Chart Music Live to start. Tracey & Colin have VIP seats in the 2nd row, whereas I’m in the cheap seats 😆
The screen above the stage was showing stills from TOTP but I don’t know what image this is about?

With the summer festival season now completed, here’s all of Slowdive’s set lists. Manchester’s was pretty much as expected, and we had 2 less in Edinburgh due to a shorter set time. Bordeaux was treated to a rare Avalyn and Paris heard Slomo, with Machine Gun played at both. #setlistgeek #Slowdive

Been to the hospital to check that my heart procedure I had 3 years ago is working as expected. 🫀 It is, so all good on that front. However I did go away with 3 separate puncture wounds as my veins were being very shy. And with all the jiggling about I felt a little faint briefly as I’m a wuss.
My arm with 3 sets of bandages where the doctor tried to inject my vein, twice unsuccessfully.

The encore consisted of 8 classic hit singles which the crowd loved and danced to. Lots of parents with kids so lovely to see them share that experience. Started with Lullaby and finishing with Boys Don’t Cry. 2 1/4 hours of pure bliss, they have so many brilliant songs. Full list in Mark’s post 👇

Classic after classic, including Charlotte Sometimes, A Night Like This with Jason’s son Gabriel coming on to play the sax solo (Simon’s son Eden is part of the band as 3rd guitar). Some of my faves were Burn OTEOTDGS and the Disintegration songs, although I loved it all (Never Enough not so much 😆)

A 45 min break before the Cure came on at 8.15pm but the crowd was so packed by that point, no point moving. Quite emotional hearing the opening bars of Plainsong, we were treated to a Disintegration heavy set, including fabulous versions of Fascination Street, Prayers For Rain and the title track.

Mogwai up next at 6.30pm for a 1 hour set. Earplugs back in after treating my ears without them for Slowdive. A wise decision as the sound level seemed to increase. I really enjoyed the set, think it confused a few Cure fans. Faves were Jim Morrison and Fear Satan (no surprise).

Slowdive were next at 5.15pm for just a 45 min set (far too short for my liking) but they sounded fantastic. As expected they dropped 2 songs from their standard festival set, leaving out Shanty and Slomo/40 Days, shame but understandable. My faves were Catch the Breeze, SSS and When the Sun Hits.

We managed to get a wristband for the front section where there was still plenty of space even though it looked quite full. Then at 4.15pm it all started with Just Mustard. They’re a band I already like and have seen live, and I thought they handled being on a big stage well, sounded really good.

Having met up with Simon & Sarah, and then Andrea, we all took the 98 Goth Express from the city centre, much to the bemusement of the tourists. We did have to queue for maybe half an hour but it was very well organised, and despite the traffic around the airport/showground we got in about 4pm.
98 The Cure in the electronic boards on the back and front of the buses, it felt good 🖤The buses lined up on the far right of George Street, with St Andrew Square and its tall statue in the distance View from the front of the top deck.
Because we’re special!
If you ask Simon nicely he might share a picture of me acting all excited about being at the front.

After having watched England beat Pakistan at Headingley on Friday (and why I missed the Manchester Cure/Slowdive gig), I spent a couple of nights at my parents in York, then drove up the east coast on Sunday morning, having a little detour via Bamburgh, the scene of many childhood beach holidays.
Bamburgh Castle from a few miles away Ross Bay.
we used to drive down a small country lane, hike across some wild dunes and then have most of Ross Sands beach all by ourselves (can’t see from here, but round the corner at the top, but the same colour of beautiful sands).

It’s been a while since I’ve shared Slowdive’s set lists, but I have been tracking them in this year’s mostly festival dates, and it’s finally the UK’s time, Manchester tomorrow and Edinburgh on Sunday. Not much variation, seems to be a fairly standard festival set. #setlistgeek #Slowdive
Slowdive songs in each of their sets in 2026 so far, includes a couple of club shows in China but mainly a 10 song festival set.

Well no, but it’s classy in b&w. Keeps an air of mystery, who is this girl, what is she thinking? What I was trying to say badly, was that the picture suited being saturated in a single colour, like many Sarah singles (or Smiths singles). This is the best I can do with my amateur editing skills.

A 3-player game of Power Grid just finished.
Both Purple & Green built 17 cities and were able to power them all up, so in a tiebreaker it went down to money, and Purple had £265 v Green’s £180.

Been a big strong man and changed a tyre this afternoon, first time in about 30 years. It was a bit of a buggger, didn’t want to come off, but after pausing for a bit, watching a few YouTube videos, kicked it, wiggled it and it finally came off. Still need to take it to a garage for a proper tyre.

Firstly a chart of how often each score from 0-40 occurred in all the 5 seasons to date. This season is shown as a thicker blue line. Not much of note apart from less higher scores, 36 was the highest and then a couple of 31’s. Maybe less scores under 8. 21/
A line chart showing the frequency of different weekly score across 5 seasons (in different colours), and the average shown in a dotted line.
From 0 to 41.

This latest season 5 is shown in a thicker blue line.

Now here’s the combined 5 league tables shown together. The column on the right compares the average scoring across all the leagues, including adjusting for any missing scores. That’s the end of the normal round up, but I’ll continue with the stats and see if I can complete tonight. 20/
Week 10 League table for Season 5 of the EIO40 Music Leagues, containing 5 leagues with 11 in each. The league shows the running total, the scores over the last 3 weeks, and an overall ranking based on adjusted average weekly points. The season is 10 weeks long.
2 up & 2 down so promotion candidates are shown in green whilst relegation candidates are shown in red, everyone else is yellow.

Richard was clear at the top most of the season although almost overtaken by Surj’s high scores in the last 4 weeks. A big midtable cluster, including @axel96.bsky.social who finishes 9th. A few badly scoring final weeks for @marksmusic1977.bsky.social to finish 10th, ahead of Paul in 11th. 19/

League 5 @richw27.bsky.social 🥇 Richard hangs on to take the L5 title by 2pts in his debut season. Surj Bami 🥈 A superb final week for Surj scoring 24 and only just missed out on the title but secures promotion in his first season. @alanmuttley1066.bsky.social 🥉 Alan hangs on to 3rd by 1pt. 17/

Bonus content for L4 only: This shows who voted for who in total. Shows Chris gave the most 32 to Brian (and received 26 in return), but also the least 3 to Peter F. Next season looks good for me & Rich (in theory), whereas Iain has lost his allies. 16/

A very tight league for at least 5 weeks. Chris & Brian then pulled away and alternated at the top. Peter F clear bottom from week 6 onwards. @brinyhoof.bsky.social midtable throughout and @peterlatimer6.bsky.social finishes bang middle 6th for the 3rd season in a row. 15/

Graeme & Bruce were cast adrift by week 4 and it was a private battle between them. Close at the top with the top 3 and then Adele joining at the end. @francisgllgn.bsky.social leading after 4 weeks but fell away. @clivesnr.bsky.social was a potential challenger but had a poor last 4 weeks. 12/
