Man, the Brewers-Padres game should be a blowout. The Padres have only 3 hits, but one was a homer whereas the Brewers keep making loud outs with runners on base, so the Brewers cannot put the game away.

Wasn’t the Frank Wilhoit who noticed this a musician? (Historically, musicians have had a pretty good collective sense about politics.)

Huh, things might be tighter than I assumed in Michigan if a Republican is running in bipartisanship: like most states, swing voters in Michigan seem to demand this promise from Democrats, but not so much from Republicans.

That seemed pretty obvious. And that’s a credit to PCA.

Nobody choked: that was entirely on the Padres’ pitchers. The closest thing to a “choke” might have been Stammen: he let emotions get the better part of him and left King in too long in Game 1. That might have contributed to King fading in Game 2 against Milwaukee.

The Pads might regret that bunt: there’s over a 30% chance that it cost them a run.

Don’t the Dodgers have a position player they can use instead of Diaz?

The Dodgers' announcers just stressed that when best of 5 series are tied 1-1, the winner of Game 3 wins the series almost 72% of the time. If every game was a coin-flip, then that team should win 75% of the time ± binomial error. My bet is that it's within that error. But it also means that these…

True, but swing voters assume that the GOP just says that sort of thing to galvanize their base: they always are stunned when the GOO follows through. The bigger danger is that this will galvanize non-MAGA Republicans to hold their noses and vote GOP despite the awful candidates & Trump. It also…

No more so than Matthew Boyd or dozens of other MLB starters I could name if I were not too lazy to log onto Baseball Reference or Fangraphs. But it's always more aggravating when they pitch for *your* team.

I would fire managers that called for sacrifice bunts unless those bunts put game ending runs on 3rd with one out or if you are trying to *not* run up scores in a blowout.

King might be out of gas for the first time. The Padres were pretty foolish to leave him in a blowout game to go for a no-hitter on Tuesday: it would serve them right if it bit them on the ass today. (This could also be some bad BABiP luck: but King's strength is not allowing the IP part.)

That’s why I find it funny when posters here and elsewhere say that the Ricketts should sell to someone who would be willing to spend. That’s the last thing that other owners would want a new owner to do! Oh well, a season long lockout ought to fix everything…

… always amusing to see how the old ballparks were crammed into neighborhoods in the ways that they were. Wrigley & Fenway are the only ones left like that, but the old Tigers Stadium, Ebbett's Field, Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, etc., all were crammed into wherever they (often barely) fit.

I'm just thinking that the people living in the apartments across the street in Wrigley might object after a Glen Allen Hill shot results in their homes being bulldozed the following winter in order to put in the new bleachers. And say goodbye to Landsdowne Street! On a tangential note, it is…

Sadly, I think that what most people find exciting is a 4 single inning with a stolen base and a runner thrown out or almost thrown out trying to score. And that is exciting. But it never was common (despite the memories of the Olds) and it’s even less probable today.

… “traditional” but it dates back to when teams had to take trains to different cities and they had to allow for a possible East Coast <-> Midwest World Series. We’ve had planes for 75 years now, so the off days are unneeded ad well as well as advantageous for the lesser team. 😡😡😡😡

Why are the AL teams not playing today? MLB claims that it wants the playoffs to give the better teams an advantage. However, 4th and 5th starters are often the biggest difference between a good and very good team. By spacing out games, that becomes moot. I know that the travel days are…

Velocity is necessary but insufficient when it comes down to whiffing batters. Still, part of the reason why Cubs pitchers allowed too much contact all year (and 90+ FRS is not going to be repeated!) was too many average velocity pitchers. (Even if average today was blazing when guys my age played!)

And, shockingly, by forcing the Padres to rely on RiSP hits while hitting home runs themselves, the Brewers did what the Cubs could not: beat the Padres!
