I find that the Red Sox announcers often have the best knowledge about the lore of other teams. They have a doubleheader against the Cubs today. So, how do they start the broadcast? Baseball went to having every game start at the same time on the last day of the season quite a few years ago now. However, when was the last time that there were actually meaningful games played on the last day of the season beyond the exact ranking of Wild Card teams?

The Cubs have been hitting a lot of "single or infield out" balls this series, but the Marlins have been making a *lot* of really nice plays to generate the latter outcome. I ought not complain, as the Cubs fielders are better at doing this than any other team by a long shot. Still, petards suck...

Baseball announcers for multiple teams are emphasizing how important home-field advantage is going to be for the opening best-of-three round of the playoffs. Home teams are 7-9 in those series. They are 17-20 in the actual games. If there is a home field advantage, then it's a small one!

This is actually an awesome idea. Some of the great operas have tunes that are every bit as catchy as anything that hits the Top 40, as well as sweeping moments that hook you as much as as the best guitar or sax solos. “Commoners” used to love operas, too.

The Cubs have lost both of the last two games primarily because they gave up home runs and didn't hit any. That has to stop ASAP, because postseason ball is even more about out-homering the opponent than regular season ball is.

35 or so years ago, I got to see a Çhicago Bulls game in which Michael Jordan "quietly" scored 60 points. PCA is having that sort of game today: HR, double and single plus a stolen base, and it doesn't feel like he's having a particularly great day.

Heh, the Cubs announcers are talking about the concerns people have for Paul Skenes fastball dropping into the mid 90s. When people my age were playing (also in the '90s), mid-90s (low 150s if you are in KPH) was a blazing, almost unhittable, fastball. Now? It's very hittable.
