It is clear from the English text that a Nikkei reporter wrote the “Personal History” (私の履歴書) in Japanese—likely based on interviews conducted through an interpreter—and then someone back-translated the Japanese into English. One piece of evidence: no American would ask Schwarzman what his 座席の銘 is.

Nikkei disease spreads to Yomiuri. Excellent piece by Miho Naganuma about reshuffle of the Topix index. At the end, someone inserted a botched version of a cliche, saying that "difficult steering of the keel is sought" at TSE. No: *skillful* steering is sought, and ideally it *won't* be difficult.

What’s interesting is Krugman implies he has long held that view, referring to a lecture he gave in 2013. In reality, the lecture offers a model of macro that MMT-ers reject. I believe he has changed his view and if so, he shouldn’t do it stealthily.

Krugman: “[E]ven fiscally irresponsible nations very rarely have acute debt crises unless they borrow large amounts in foreign currency, because countries that borrow in their own currency can’t literally run out of money—they can print more as needed.” This is MMT, except MMT-ers might say “never.”

I don’t expect Nikkei to correct this but it isn’t really accurate to say that Scotus ruled the Ieepa tariffs “unconstitutional” (違憲) or that the case was about the constitutionality of the tariffs. The case was about whether the Ieepa statute authorized the tariffs.

Couple of thoughts on #Scotus tariff ruling: 1) Roberts doesn't say whether the emergencies Trump cited were really emergencies. A lot of laypeople thought that was the critical question. Roberts, though, bypasses it and says: Even if these ARE emergencies, IEEPA doesn't authorize tariffs.
